St. Anthony High football coach Brian Walsh stepped down from his post after seven years in charge of the program. He will continue at the Saints' athletic director.
"For seven years, coach Walsh has provided young student-athletes in our community an opportunity to grow as football players and as young men of character, teaching them valuable life-lessons and that football is more than just about wins and losses," said St. Anthony Principal Mike Schabert in a statement released Monday. "As St. Anthony has experienced significant growth over the past few years, I am confident that Mr. Walsh has built a great foundation for years to come. We look forward to his continued guidance of the program as athletic director."
Prior to Walsh, the Saints posted a 15-52-2 record under four different coaches. Over the past seven years, St. Anthony went 34-39 with three trips to the CIF-SS playoffs.
"I am proud of what we were able to accomplish while also providing much-needed stability and continuity within this program. There is a great group of kids here that are ready to take this program to the next level," said Walsh.
The search for the next St. Anthony coach will begin in January.
