Fighting AIDS since 1987

ASC 002.jpg

The AIDS Service Center celebrated 21 years of fighting the disease at a party Sunday at the Arroyo-side house of John Sadler by honoring All Saints Church, where the ASC was founded 21 years ago as a telephone with an answering machine in the basement. That's ASC Executive Director Yvonne Benson and All Saints Rector Ed Bacon above.

ASC was there near the start of the pandemic. Most of its clients were gay white men. Now most of its clients are people of color, often whole families. ASC provides food distribution, housing services, transportation, health education and case management. It's bringing hope to thousands of people every day. Want to help? Buy a ticket to one of the Big Night Out dinners May 10 by visiting www.aidsservicecenter.org or find out about volunteer opportunities at the same Web site.

Lots of good and interesting supporters were there: Elsie Sadler. Hope Bacon. Nancy and Don McIntyre. Frank Clark. Chris Davidson. Margaret Sedenquist. Lyla White. Here's Mayor Bill Bogaard and one of those infinity pools:
