The trees are already gone
Some folks were planning a protest -- just handing out some fliers opposed to the ficus massacre, I think -- on Saturday in front of some of the big specimens on Colorado Boulevard in the Playhouse District.
Oops -- they're gone. This photo by Branislav Kecman was taken around 2 in the morning today. Sorry you'll have to click on the bars above to see what's now mere timber -- when you do, though, I think you'll get the picture.

This is a tragedy. The city knew this was the tree most worth saving and cut it down before the demo. But I'm still going to protest about it at 11 am today.
By the way, how can Vroman's say they're sad about it when their manager was one of the leading advocates for the tree removal?

Hi Larry: I cannot believe that the City has resorted to sneaking around in the dead of night to fell these trees. What's the old adage - where there's smoke there's fire? Well, if you think the City is sneaking around to hide something, it usually means they are! How sad, for Vroman's to also seemingly want it both ways - blame the trees for your sewer problems, lobby behind the scenes to get them removed in the dead of night, then claim sorrow over the loss? That's so un-Pasadena, it stinks! Get to the bottom of this one, would you Larry? Is it public works that ordered this stunt? Parks & Natural Resources? Who gave the 'cloak of night' order? Shameful. Someone needs a civics lesson on transparent government. Attn: Kathy Woods - this is a complaint!

As the LAT described it: a Pasadena Chain Saw Massacre. Done in the darkroom of pols & biz, away from the light of the community which wanted these trees to live.
Maybe now that Vroman's has got their Ficus killed off they won't care if the remaining trees live!

Get over yourself. How does the editor of the Star-News justify being part of boycotting local stores because of a handful of shabby trees?
Newspaper editors are supposed to have some perspective.
Get a grip!

A neighborhood nomination. What neighborhood has streets named after the larger than life World War II Heroes Doolittle,Hodges,Eisenhower,Lynd,Daines,Foss and Weidermeyer? Ans.-South Arcadia Un- incorperated(these Streets near Live Oak and 10th honor the skills and dedication to duty of leaders who fought brilliantly to rid the world of facists. How many know this when they drive by these streets?

Loved Phoebe's parasol last night!

Showed how out of touch these people are with real life. Parasols and their ideas belong in 1885 not 2009.
Turn off the A/C and save the world Phoebe and Larry.
