The brains behind Punta Brava
Brian Tucker, left, at the site of Punta Brava in Baja California, where Tiger Woods, right, will design a 70 par golf course. It will be the third golf course by Woods.
Punta Brava is in a small peninsula 65 miles south of San Diego in rapidly developing Baja California. By 2011, it will be the first ocean front golf course designed by Tiger Woods.
One of the partners in the project is Brian Tucker, 32, a native of Rancho Cucamonga. In 2006, Tucker fell in love with the site and knew it was perfect for a high-end golf resort.
"The only thing better is if Tiger Woods could be a part of it," he thought.
Two weeks later, Woods launched his design company.
A story in Saturday's paper about Tucker, the Etiwanda High graduate, follows.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA -- Brian Tucker, 32, is hardly a wild guy. The Rancho Cucamonga native, a product of Etiwanda High School, has a good head on his shoulders.
But on his way to fulfilling his dream, he went out on a limb -- sold his $1 million home, moved into an apartment and quit his job as vice president of Charles Schwab.
It seemed like a wild and crazy move. But the result became Punta Brava, or Wild Point, a piece of pristine land 65 miles south of San Diego that will be an elite golf course designed by Tiger Woods.
Punta Brava is a joint project with Tiger Woods Design and The Flagship Group, which Tucker is a partner.
"Having the real estate and the best golfer in the world be a part of this -- it's a perfect storm," Tucker said.
Tucker, a Coronado resident, was in Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday to talk about his latest project, which is scheduled for completion in 2011.
That perfect storm began while Tucker was exploring Google Earth one day, and discovered a peninsula that juts seven miles into the Pacific Ocean south of Ensenada. The land is bordered by a 1,200-foot mountain peak. Tucker climbed it to see what was on the other side.
"The clouds parted and I looked and angels sang," he said. "I knew my life would be changed forever."
If Tucker appears melodramatic, it's because the site of Punta Brava is also dramatic. The 18 hole, par 70 course has ocean views at every tee and eight holes are played over water.
Buying real estate and becoming a member will cost between $3.5 million to $12 million. The 300-acre property will have 140 pieces of real estate for purchase.
Now that construction for the project is set to begin, it seems well worth the financial risk for Tucker and his family. But at the time, the move to follow his dream was a difficult one.
In 2006, Tucker's wife was pregnant with their second son and to get the project started, they moved to an apartment and dug deep into their retirement savings.
"We put all of our chips into this $1 billion project," Tucker said.
That year, Woods launched his design company and upon first sight of the ocean front property, the famed golfer was sold. In addition to Punta Brava, Tiger Woods Design is working on golf courses in Dubai and North Carolina.
Tucker said he has enjoyed working with Woods, who brings his high standards for the game into his design work.
"He's never satisfied. You bring him a plan and he'll come up with something even better," Tucker said. "He's a perfectionist."
