Your two cents on Prop. 8

I appreciate readers who take time out to call or e-mail regardless of how angry and disgusted they are. Today, my voice mail and phone conversations regarding the article on a same-sex wedding ranged from mild disappointment ("Don't you believe in God? I think you better open your Bible and read," said Pat from Montclair.) to utter disappointment ("You need to report on actual happenings," said an anonymous caller. "Get rid of that sh%* and start doing your job.")

Some were angry but still polite.

"I just canceled my subscription to the paper because of your promotion of gay marriage. I think it's sickening. Have a good night. Bye," Howard said.

Thanks Howard, I did have a nice evening. I'm sorry you canceled our paper but you have a good night, too.

Finally, there was Edward who has been married to his wife for 20+ years.

"Whether you're a man or woman ... man with a man or woman with a woman ... it's who you love and who you want to be with. If you love somebody and you want to marry somebody, that's the way it should be. I think that's pretty awesome," Edward said.

Among our readers, Edward, you're a minority. Thanks for calling.

I appreciate your blog on the topic. We invite you to see first-hand our fight against such blatant discrimination. We'll be at the corner of Day Creek and Foothill on Saturday around 3pm. Funny how history really does repeat itself -one would think we've gotten wiser in the last 31 years...

I applaud you for blogging on happenings that some people would like to suppress around town, such as the several major intersections where the Yes on 8 demonstrators were scheduled to appear at; I can't leave out the exposure of the racist graphic that was circulated amongst a club that claims numerous civic leaders and their spouses as members. That is sickening.

More sickening is that there aren't more people aware or angered by such blatant racism (or perhaps they are not bothered by it?)

And if God creates people that He then finds so morally reprehensible, that are so vilified by His good Christian sons and daughters, then I want nothing to do with this God.

I am amazed at the hatred and discrimination I see on street corners in the afternoon. Yes on 8 signs in Rancho Cucamonga - who could believe such a modern looking, progressive seeming community would be so awful and backwards?? I am a teacher and a lesbian in RC and I have many other gay teacher and professional friends who live here. We are embarrassed by what we see. We pay taxes, own homes, spend money, raise and educate children, and follow laws. Why should we be discriminated against? If this prop passes, then anything/one could be next on the constitutional chopping block. My marriage couldn't possibly affect anyone else's life! Your marriage doesn't affect mine. If people want to "protect marriage" they should work towards preventing divorce, abandonment and abuse. Additionally, I have never taught "marriage" in my classroom. People who are gay will not disappear and discriminating against them only teaches children to hate groups of people they do not agree with and to act against them. RC should support it's gay, peaceful, tax paying, citizens in love.
