Dinner to benefit 4 a Safe Ride Home

Dustin Plummer.jpgAn evening of dinner, dance and auction will be held on Friday to raise funds for 4 a Safe Ride Home, a free taxi service aimed to reduce drunken driving. The benefit dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Ontario Hilton.

In 2006, Rancho resident Dustin Plummer, pictured, died in a freeway crash caused by a drunken driver. After his death, family and friends started 4 a Safe Ride Home as a way to curb such accidents. In addition to holding fundraisers to pay for the ride service, the group visits local high schools to warn students against drinking and driving.

About $7,000 worth of donations -- from plane tickets to backstage passes to "Wicked" -- will be auctioned off on Friday. Each person will also have a chance to win $500. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by calling (909) 481-8300 or sending an e-mail to d_plummer1@yahoo.com.
