Happy birthday, RC

First_Council[1].JPGRancho turns 31 today.

The city has come a long way since 1977 when this photo was taken of the first City Council. The photo comes courtesy of Jim Frost, pictured bottom left as the city's first mayor.

City Council meetings then were held at the Lions Center in a crowded room with a borrowed sound system. Meetings would end between midnight and 3 a.m.

"Couldn't cut the meetings short because there was so much to do that we couldn't carry items forward because of the impact on the following meetings," Frost told me.

Last week, the City Council meeting went until 9:40 p.m., making me wish I covered Ontario, which recently had a 14-minute council meeting. I guess I should feel lucky I didn't cover the city in 1977.

Thanks for the history... who are the other gentlemen in the photograph?

The ones standing are former council members, from left, Phil Schlosser, Jon Mikels and Mike Palombo. Jim Frost and former Mayor Pro Tem Charles West are sitting.

Hey Wendy -- is there any way I can get a digital copy of that photo? Its one that I don't have...my dad passed away in 2006 (Mike Palombo) and it would be great to show my kids.

Thanks,

Domenico (Dominic)
