Water park up in the air
Doesn't this look promising? It's the Family Aquatics Center planned for the western corner of Central Park. It's got picnic areas, splash zones and an impressive water slide. Problem is, there's not enough money to build and operate it.
"My prayer is we can get this up and running in two years," said Councilman Rex Gutierrez.
His prayers will not likely get answered. The next 12 months will be spent designing the project and holding public hearings. After that, the city will have to wait for the economy to turn around. When that happens, it'll take more than 20 months for plan check, bidding and construction. My guess is, when the project is complete, the City Council will look quite different than today's.

Why can't we just scale down for a change?
Councilman Rex says he wants to preserve what is left of our city land, yet he wants a water park resembling Rageing Waters. How about some nice open land with beautiful trees, picnic tables and maybe a pond for a duck or two? Red Hill and Heritage should be the examples for Central Park!
I think we would use these facilities more than we than the current "Central Park" facilities, which seem to be geared for the mostly over 55 crowd. I'm hoping for this water park before my kids are grown and out of the house!
