Reactions to arrest of Gutierrez

| | Comments (3) |
"It's a disturbing situation. I hope the charges are not true."
-- Mayor Don Kurth

"I'm saddened for Rex and his family."
-- Councilman Dennis Michael

"Wednesday's (City Council) meeting was something Rex orchestrated that turned into a circus but this, this is more involved. This is criminal. Allegations are more air-tight than in a civil case."
-- Councilman Sam Spagnolo

"The business of innocent until proven guilty ... well, they don't arrest people usually unless they have proof. ... It's just a mess."
-- Councilwoman Diane Williams

"We are going all the way through trial. There's zero chance of a plea bargain."
-- James Reiss, Gutierrez's attorney

"I truly believe none of this would have occurred if former Assessor Bill Postmus and the management team he put in place would have lived up to their promise to taxpayers to improve efficiency and responsiveness in the Assessor's Office."
-- County Supervisor Paul Biane

Rex,Rex,Rex,this does'nt seem like a "misunderstanding" to one looking from the outside. Your mouthpiece say's there will be no plea deal, sound's good to me. I just don't understand why law enforcement would pick you and the others in the Accessor's office to dream up charges against, can you help me with that Rex? Time will tell, but for now you look bad and I don't believe your innocent. If there's a way to get you off the city council I'm all for it, since your arrogance and false sense of importance won't allow you to resign.
I also hope the city council will look real hard before doing further business with Burum, since it's obvious what he's been doing.
Rex, the difference between you and the character Jimmy Stewart played is that he was honest and had integrity.

RE: WILLIAM'S COMMENT
So help me understand Ms. William's comment.
In her role as a board member for the Fire Protection District and the RDA along with being an elected City Council member, she will be required to participate and serve a judicial function for various hearings and decisions.
And her approach is that Innocent Until Proven Guilty is superseded by the fact if you are arrested, that is prima facia evidence that you are guilty.
One of two conclusions:
The constitution is dead in R.C,
Or, if this blog entry is cited at a public hearing, she will need to recuse herself for judicial prejudice
