Gutierrez finds loyalty in five
The City Council meeting was much subdued tonight. Just five supporters for Councilman Rex Gutierrez spoke
during public comment period. The meeting was Gutierrez's first public
appearance since his arrest on May 27 for grand theft and
misappropriation of public funds. Gutierrez's backers repeated their
calls on the City Council to hold judgment until the councilman has
gone through trial.
I felt bad for the city employee who placed dozens of chairs in the hallway and outside the chambers anticipating large crowds. An hour into the meeting, he had to put all the chairs away.

Ms. Leung- you are not a columnist, but a reporter. We do not read your reports for your emotions. Leave that for David Allen and friends.
Supporter's asked to hold judgement AND stick to council business. Don't know why being on City Council, you cannot express thoughts and opinions on a topic that bring all these supporters out.
Speaking of sticking to City business and not focussing on this "county issue".....
I liked Rex' little preach, I mean speech during his 3 minutes. When times get tough find religion. Save it for Sunday Rex, and stick to city business.
Just another example of a hard working politician, who could have gone a long way, took the wrong path, and got caught up in his own mess. As someone said during the meeting...... surpirse there's gambling going on in the Casino's.
Shari... Shaddup!!
What do you people not understand about reading a blog versus reading a report? This is a blog! The person writing the blog can write what they feel like writing because it is a blog. The definition of blog is a frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links. A blog is often a mixture of what is happening in a person's life and what is happening on the Web, a kind of hybrid diary/guide site, although there are as many unique types of blogs as there are people.
Get it? Keep it up, Wendy!
That's true, Scott, a blog does give reporters more leeway to publish their thoughts. Nevertheless, I try to stay away from airing my opinions on matters that I report about in the paper. I leave most of that to David Allen although I doubt he'd care about a detail so boring as chairs in the hallways.
Scott is right that this is a blog, and it can be informal. But I believe there is a distinction between a personal blog and one that is operated by the employer for work purpose.
In Wendy’s own words, she tried to balance the two; see her resolution #3 from earlier this year.
As a reader, one can see how the tone and voice of this blog appear inconsistent: some day it’s compassionate and self-disclosing; another day, sarcastic and defiant; most days, all business.
What should be a reader’s expectation here?
Sort of related to the conversation here (but off-topic as far as the councilman goes)
An article on Techdirt discussing if reporters should even have opinions or not.

Wendy's personal comments tend to be neutral in regard to the item she's blogging about, and even then, she sometimes obviously has an opinion she strongly keeps to herself, even despite my prodding at times. :)
For the people who think she should be "all business", look on the main Daily Bulletin site.
For those of us who like the color, that's what the blog is for. :)
And if you really think a blog is supposed to be the up to the second news about the city, you're better off following the Twitter feed for the paper.
What happened to the defiant, innocence proclaiming Rex of two weeks ago? God has told him everything will be OK. Rex, you know if you have committed crime's or not, If you are a man of God you should stand-up and fess-up and take your punishment and move forward. I hope you are not just talking the talk, but not living it. Only you know. Take care.
Keep up the good work Wendy! You are doing a great service for Rancho with your reporting. You're being neutral and informative which is just what we want. You can't do much about those who don't know the difference between an article and a blog... they'll get it sooner or later.
Blogs are where reporters--anybody,for that matter, can express their opinions. Those who freak out about reporter opinions in blogs shouldn't be allowed to read.
