Foothill widening could help Red Hill

The main reason the City Council voted against closing a portion of Red Hill Country Club Drive is a lack of neighborhood consensus. But council members also believe that the Foothill Boulevard widening project on the west side of town will help reduce cut-through traffic on Red Hill.

First phase of the project -- relocating cable lines -- will start in August. Then the metal bridge will be removed and replaced. The city will also put in sidewalks, a median and entryway arches. The street itself could grow from four to six lanes. Curt Billings, associate engineer, said all this could be done by August 2010.

Since the city is building a median for Foothill, one way to reduce traffic further on Red HIll would be to restrict left turns from Foothill to Red Hill Country Club Drive. The council did not decide on this option yesterday but it's still open.

I am really disappointed at this decision.
This area has really been lost by the City of Rancho Cucamonga. No one really pays any attention to this area of Red Hill, one of the oldest in the city with so much history. We should preserve Red Hill, it is so serene up here.
I spoke to your parks dept about a year ago, about the open area on Alta Questa from Baseline, she told me that area was supposed to be a park, but the money was used and the park was never built. Just like this we get left behind up here.
Our friends lived on Alta Questa just north of the stop sign and Red Hill Country Club Drive, she sold her home after one year, due to the traffic volume and the speeding for the safety of her small children, she had just one too many close calls with the cars. My husband was also a victim of a speeding car crash in 2005 on Red Hill Cty Club Dr, which he was struck by another car traveling south bound going 75 mph, this ripped the back axles off of our truck and flip it over. My husband was not hurt, but was is it going to take, someone to lose their life, whether young or old. We have a serious problem up here, and the only way to see it is to live here everyday. You can't come in one day and say its not bad, you need to be here everyday, which that is impossible. Anyway I hope that the City Council would reconsider their decision and try to preserve Red Hill.
Thank you for your time,

Dear Rose,
I couldn't agree with you more, its a very sad decision for our beloved quaint area. My husband was almost killed walking recently, by a car driving at about 70 mph and almost every night around 8:00PM an idiot drives around my corner at record speeds and the tire tracks are there to show. Too bad he doesn't roll his truck. The whole idea of closing off any area of Red Hill was doomed from the start, just ask Traffic Boss at the City Mr. Gillespie, there are tons of files from many years ago where trying to do something about the traffic failed over and over. Most of us that wanted the closure believe its the Country Club preventing this and perhaps payoffs to the council. Our own neighbor/Councilman Dennis Michael should have been our biggest cheerleader, but he cowers on his quiet little street never stands up for anything for us and this was one time he should have, but he says he can't because he belongs to the Country Club!!!!
I say be sure to spread the word, NEVER vote in any imbcumbents to Rancho government. Never again do I want to see anyone that is on that council again.
