COPS pay visit
Anyone out there seen the recent COPS episode featuring your favorite city?
Not being an avid COPS follower, I missed it. Rancho sheriff's Capt. Joe Cusimano said COPS filmed for several weeks and included Rancho officers in 10 episodes. In the last episode, Dep. Mike Mason was featured in an armed robbery.

Don't watch every week, but yes during last couple months have seen probably 3 stories (couple may have been on same episode) with Rancho Sheriff. Bank robbery at Daycreek/Baseline, Teenagers with drugs bust, Baseline and Archibald, and domestic drunken family argument during Saturday night party, did not show where, just Rancho Sherriff.
Apparently there's never a dull moment in Rancho. Ever since seeing these shows, I have avoided driving on Baseline. Seems like some bad stuff happening around that street.
I happened to be at the Henry's market near the bank when the bank robbery was going down. It was kind of wierd seeing almost as many camera-men in the parking lot as there were police officers.
Thankfully, I wasn't around for the teenagers with drugs bust or the drunken family argument.
Baseline and Day Creek, Baseline and Milliken are improved over past 10 years with senior's center, fire station, shopping centers) butthe increase in speeding traffic, drunkeness, littering, transients (people wandering in front of winery wearing pajamas) are unfortunate. Maybe a sign of the times due to 210 and 15 freeways, Victoria Gardens mall and housing. Less problems in rc than surrounding cities for sure.
RC has been named one of the top 100 cities in the USA in which to live (low crime, great schools, etc). It's a very prestigious ranking. Los Osos was the only high school in the entire County to recieve US News & World report's silver medal award (no other county school was higher). Unfortunately when you live within miles of places like Fontana and Rialto you cannot avoid the spill-over effect of those crime-infested cities. Every place has their share of losers, but RC has a LOT LESS.
I volunteer with these guys featured in COPS. We are truly fortunate that the city has contracted with the San Bernardino Sheriffs Department. The men and women of the SBSD are dedicated to keep our city as safe as possible. I've seen first hand the professionalism they display and have watched first hand the danger they endure to keep our city safe. Two deputies died in the line of duty in our city, helping to keep the peace. Ron Ives who died in 2004 in a traffic collision, started the Bike Rodeo in the city to help kids learn to ride their bikes safely in the city. Danny Lobo also died in a motorcycle accident responding to a traffic accident a year later.
