On the agenda: City Council
Remember Pepper's?
It's the Mexican restaurant on 19th and Archibald that got a spanking from the Planning Commission last year for operating like a bar and not like a restaurant. For one, the owners called it a bar, that's a no-no. But also, it closed its kitchen, hired a bouncer and brought in a dance floor.
Because of this, the Planning Commission wanted to revoke the restaurant's conditional use permit and prohibit the sale of liquor.
In March, the City Council gave Pepper's a second chance, saying it'll revisit the issue in July.
At tonight's meeting, the city is expected to overturn the Planning Commission's decision because so far, Pepper's has been on good behavior.

This whole ordeal is an excellent example of RC council just not getting it. At consideration was a permit issued for the Pepper's establishment to operate primarily as a restuarant with a secondary bar for those dining. They got caught doing the extreme opposite, even switching to a sports-dance type club. For the past 6 months under the watch of council, they continue to operate as a bar, with virtually no food of substance served. (I shop in this center probably 5 days a week all times of day and night, so I check it out).
Bar going heavy, signs say resturant open, no name on resturant signs and virtually no customers eating meals, just drinking.
Maybe some snacks count as a resturant these days. Oh well, guess the cops don't need to go there as much so all is good. But to say the original issue with permits and what was designated to operate in a residential strip mall is being met, forget it. Council got snookered.
I remember when last discussed, Rex advised he would be stopping in and seeing if Peppers is operating by permits. With his recent problems, he probably will agree with anything these days and not rock the boat.
This one's for you Rex and RC council... I'll have a Bud!
