I've seen fire, I've seen sprinklers
A resident told Cucamonga Valley Water District board members yeseterday she's tired of seeing water wasted on the freeways. Residents are urged to water lawns early in the morning or late at night but she often sees the sprinklers near freeways on at 3 p.m.
We've all seen this, haven't we?
Unfortunately, CVWD has no say on this matter; it's under Caltrans' jurisdiction. But board members vowed to write more letters putting the problem to Caltrans' attention.
Board member Jim Curatalo, who fights fires as his day job, said the department sometimes gets calls from motorists who see mist from freeway sprinklers and they think it's smoke. So firefighters head out there preparing to see a freeway fire but find a poorly timed sprinkler instead.

Cucamonga Valley Water District President Jim Curatalo is also employee of Rancho Cucamonga Fire District - Batalion Chief. Bravado Curatalo!
Insiders speculate that he will be running against Rex Gutierrez and Diane Williams for city council.
Keep building out Rancho while water rates climb and supply dwindles. Dumb and dumber.
Rex is in trouble with DA's office and probably Feds too. Not even Rancho's Firefighters can save him. The reign is over.
As a Landscape Contractor, I can tell you that we generally water during the day to monitor the water usage and proper operation of the irrigation. This is to say, as we work on the project, water schedules are gradually adjusted down to accommodate the planting as it establishes and can be slowly weaned from constant supplemental watering. Likewise, broken irrigation components can waste more water than over watering if left unattended for any length of time.
Perhaps Caltrans isn't as water-foolish, as you think.
