Residents pack planning meet

| | Comments (14) |
It's a full house tonight at the Planning Commission meeting because Carrari Ranch is on the agenda. Without a doubt, many here are not Planning Commission regulars.

Carrari Ranch, however, is later on the agenda. Right now staff is talking about amending a development code on wireless communications facilities. I think everybody is expecting fireworks but instead they're wondering what "nev dec," "CEQA" or "CUP" means.

"This is so boring," whispered the gentleman in front of me.

HI WENDY,

I THOUGHT YOU'D BE COVERING THIS STORY. WE MET AT A MEETING THAT WAS HELD AT HERTIAGE PARK WHEN THEY WANTED TO BUILT A FIRE STATION THERE. THAT IDEA SURE WENT DOWN IN FLAMES DIDN'T IT? THANK GOD.

THE MEETING WAS A SNOOZER UNTIL THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR BEAUTIFUL FOOTHILLS CAME UP. I THINK WHEN THIS SITUATION GETS REALLY ROLLING IT'S GONING TO BE A KNOCK DOWN DRAG OUT. WHICH IT SHOULD BE.

IF THE OFFICIALS WANT TO PLAY HARD BALL WITH OUR LIVES. THEY HAD BETTER EXPECT THAT THE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO PLAY HARD BALL WITH THIERS.

I PRAY THE ONLY SOIL THAT WILL BE DUG INTO WILL BE FROM THAT OF THE HEELS OF THE PEOPLE IN ALTA LOMA AND RC. I ALONG WITH OTHERS AT THE MEETING AGREED THAT THIS SITUATION HAS STUNK OF SIDEBARS AND GREED FROM THE GET GO!

ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT RISK HUH? WILL IT'S JUST MY OPINION, BUT ANY OFFICIAL THAT GIVES THE GO AHEAD ON THIS PROPOSAL BETTER THINK ABOUT THIER OWN ENIVROMENTAL IMPACT RISK AND THIER SALARIES!

ONE SUBJECT THAT I CAN'T RECALL BEING BROUGHT UP IS THAT OF CRIME. BUILD THESE EYE SORE HOMES AND TAKING FROM A LINE FROM THE MOVIE, FIELD OF DREAMS. "BUILT IT AND THEY WILL COME." THEY BEING CRIME ITSELF.

I'VE FOLLOWED YOUR REPORTING TALENTS AND THINK YOU DO A GREAT JOB.

TAKE CARE,

PEGGY

What is the problem? The landowner/developer desires to build homes on property that they own right?

If the City building requirements are met shouldn't approval be given to the landowner/developer?

Did the Planning Commission vote on this issue?

Wendy Leung Author Profile Page said:

No. It was a scoping meeting meant to let residents speak.

This is going to be interesting Wendy. Gary Miller Development vs Rancho Cucamonga. City Council won't bend the rules and permit 110 large homes on area approved for 18.
Or will they?

Peggy,
What are you most upset about regarding the proposed project? Crime? The development will be private luxury living homes. If the developer meets code requirements, they should be permitted to build. It appears that you are making threats. True?

Carrari Ranch property owner Rep Gary Miller? Carraris could have thought ahead and offered the property to the City of RC or a land conservancy group rather than a politician/home builder. What am I thinking? That would have required some degree of vision. Forgive me please.

While the 2008 council election was pretty subdued, let us not forget that 2006 was CRAZY! And the reason it was crazy was because the fire union was trying to take control of the entire city through former Mayor Alexander, Spagnolo and their labor union attorney candidate. This issue, along with some council member's ALWAYS pro-development / pro-growth platform cost Alexander and his protege the election. This pro-growth platform was on display through their support of the Red Hill condos, desire to reroute Highland Ave. through small residential streets and Alexander's support of Gary Miller's Carrari Ranch project. Rancho is tired of growth and needs a break!

To Mayor Kurth and all of the council members: support Miller's Carrari Ranch project at your own peril! Tell Gary Miller to take a hike (and then return his money to him... it'll make it much easier to have that converation with him)

Rem 2006-

If you are so concerned about growth, why don't you move out of the city?

Hey I really don't care if they build up there. Carrari Ranch is private land. They can develop it if they want to. It won't impact my quality of life at all. It will increase local land values significantly and will help the city create more revenue to build more nice things like the parks and schools we enjoy so much.

Traffic will be minimal and traffic gets a bad rap. People need to realize that we want traffic on our roads. High traffic counts bring shops and restaurants. It is a good thing signaling a vibrant and healthy city economy. If we underdevelop, our streets would look empty. Is that what we want...empty streets lined with only single family homes.

Crime? Why would there be crime? If you build 3 million dollar mansions crime will come? No but CEO's, Lawyers, and Brokers will move in with their fat wallets spending money at our shops and restaurants.

I used to play up there as a kid all the time and I am not crying about it being developed. They tore down our tree house and built a 2 million dollar mansion and you don't hear me complaining. It was their land and we actually should not have been there to begin with. It's better than the 5 houses per acre San Bernardino County wanted to build.

Rancho will become a corporate address. The executive estates will be built, the office and condo towers will rise, and the small town feel will vanish like an Orange County Citrus Orchard. We can retain our small town feel if we integrate new urbanism with suburbanism. If we do not we could see an urban nightmare rise before our eyes.

Smart growth is the way. The city founders always had big plans for the city. They did not want us to create a stagnant economy by under developing the city. You want to see overdevelopment just wait until the parking structures come.

The anti-development residents better save their energy for what's to come. When the office and condo towers begin to sprout up, hopefully they build the parking structures in the basement of the buildings. This is the kind of development issue Rancho will face in the near future.

Overdevelopment in the founder’s eyes means accomplishment and progress. The more the population is spread out the less functional the city becomes. The more dense the more functional. It's called urban sprawl and we need to rethink urbinization before it smacks us in the face. New Urbanism will save the city.

Fascinating opinions – too bad it is so short on facts to support them.
The one fact that is easily verifiable is that the city [sic] builds parks and schools.
WRONG – the City has never built a school. The School Districts do that.
So, if you are so wrong on a simple fact, it does call into question the basis of the rest of your “opinions” and their veracity.
