Residents wrap up 90 minutes later

Final tally: 33 34 residents spoke opposing Carrari Ranch, including one Upland and one Claremont resident. Nobody spoke supporting the project.

The quote that basically summed up residents' attitude: "This is a project that has no reason for being," said Lee Nelson.

Honorable mention goes to the long-distance runner/ER physician named Gerard who evoked Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi." That song gives us the wonderful line, "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

This might be the first time Joni Mitchell was quoted in the Council Chambers.

One resident asked if the initial study can be downloaded. Here it is:

I understand that there is only enough buildable land in all that acerage to build 20 homes on. Does this mean that the city will be asked to amend the current building codes and change them just to make Miller richer?? Oh ! I forgot he is friends with all the city council members and has bought and paid for them. Silly me !!!! He is just another developer with money to spend to get his way, and to hell with what the people of Rancho want. Remember elections are coming up. Vote out ALL incombents !!!!

Remember 2006 said:

While the 2008 council election was pretty subdued, let us not forget that 2006 was CRAZY! And the reason it was crazy was because the fire union was trying to take control of the entire city through former Mayor Alexander, Spagnolo and their labor union attorney candidate. This issue, along with some council member's ALWAYS pro-development / pro-growth platform cost Alexander and his protege the election. This pro-growth platform was on display through their support of the Red Hill condos, desire to reroute Highland Ave. through small residential streets and Alexander's support of Gary Miller's Carrari Ranch project. Rancho is tired of growth and needs a break!

To Mayor Kurth and all of the council members: support Miller's Carrari Ranch project at your own peril! Tell Gary Miller to take a hike (and then return his money to him... it'll make it much easier to have that converation with him)
