Has Gutierrez lost his mojo?
Nearly ten months following the arrest of Rex Gutierrez, the polarizing councilman has lost some of the defiance he once displayed. Last May, he told his supporters, "We will fight, and we will win," but lately he has been talking about the possibility of not running for re-election.
"I'm thinking of running but I don't know what my future holds," he said in an interview late last month. "If things don't go in my favor, I may not get to run."
Gutierrez, who was the top vote getter in the 1996 and 2006 elections, is now wondering whether he was meant to be a city councilman after all.
"The legal process does wear you down," he said. "My mission in life was to be in public service. It could be the possibility that I could be wrong. It does make me kind of sad. On the other hand, it's a little thrilling in some way that I don't know what the future will hold."
So basically, Gutierrez may run or he may not. He's kind of sad but also thrilled. But one thing is for sure, Gutierrez has no regrets.
"I feel it's been a fairly successful career with four elections I've won -- certainly not without controversy," Gutierrez said. "I feel it's been worth it. I would have done it all the same. I know I haven't done anything wrong."

awwwwwww poor rex.
he may be able to accept gifts at county jail.
we have had so many crooked city officials over the years that it is hard to believe that we may have an honest one for a change. Everyone is innocient until proven guilty unless you are on the other side of the political spectrum. It looks like Rex has been found guilty only by association with the auditor. How many of us could possibly be judged by the company that we keep? Sweep your own door step before you point fingers at someone elses.
Rex, You are the most trustworthy political person I ever met. Also the only one that have to work for a living.
I appreciate all the time You taken from You family to meet and talk to us about different problems.
You have to learn how to navigate in shark water
I'd vote for Rex again in a heartbeat. He had fresh ideas and was my favorite councilman. His popularity made the other council members jealous, his new ideas threatened the establishment interests.
The councilman's issues ranging from light rail transit to medical marijuana dispensaries were highly popular with young voters while these same issues were completely out of the question for the rest of the council. And for certain members of the council to judge an innocent fellow council member before he is proven guilty is reprehensible. Remember habeas corpus and those pesky things called ethics and what about that one place called the Department of Justice?
These jealous antics are probably the reason why he's facing these ridiculous charges. Go for it Rex, the young people like you and we are a large-voting block now, we actually matter. With the internet you can destroy the competition. And remember the city has a median age of 31 so keep the new ideas coming, they were quite refreshing.
Jessica - Can you name the "many crooked city officials" in RC please?
Rex,
You are the man of the cloth, you are the savior, we will walk across burning coals to be with you when the earth's end nears, what a great man you are, we are so touched to have met you, the grace you have bestowed upon us, thank you for saving rancho cucamonga from burning evil, oh Rex, oh Rex what will we do without you????????
Matt, have u considered a run for r.c. city office? perhaps a platform of medical marijuana dispensaries is a winner. you could raise more $$ for a rex statue to be commissioned. perhaps at a discount since he half-sized? Matt 4 RC!

No the Jack Benny statue is just fine. Or maybe we could build a statue of YOU since you think you know so much. I grew up in Alta Loma and have lived here for over 25 years. I know when change is in the air. It's raining nickles here in Rancho. Sorry my Republican friends your party is over. Now pack up your Bush memorabilia and get the @#$% out.
The city is turning blue and the county has turned democratic too and you have the worst president in American history to thank. Funny how you won't even put your name where it says NAME: blank. I wonder how well you did on your SAT's. By the way cool name. I have a better one but it's a swear word...REPUBLICAN.
Matt my boy... take 10mg of Meprobamate and call me in the morning.
