Smoking ban widens

The City Council gave final approval to an ordinance tonight that will ban smoking in ATM lines, bus stops and other outdoor service lines. The city will spend about $6,000 to put up no-smoking signs at bus stops.

Restaurant owner Jim Moffatt, a staunch opponent of smoking restrictions, wondered if there was a better way to spend the money, such as give it to landscape maintenance district 6, which no longer has money to keep public landscaping well maintained.

"Where do you find this $6,000 for things that you want?" Moffatt asked. "Why don't you give it to (LMD 6) and do something constructive with it?"

The smoking ban was approved unanimously and will go in effect after 30 days.

The next time I am in Rancho I'll be sure to light up...where do you think you are Loma Linda? Pretty soon people are going to consider that these restrictions are based on Religious beliefs(which I happen to think that they are) Let's see Seventh Day Adventist, Latter Day Saints...What's next, beef, sex, fireplaces, BBQs? You keep encroaching on personal freedoms, when you should only concern yourselves with social customs. I don't see you outlawing spitting. Smoke drifts, spit sticks. How almighty do you have to feel? You're all beginning to act paranoid like LaRouche, Birch and McCarthy.

Sounds like it was a busy night in the Council Chambers. So who ended up getting on the Parks and Rec Commission? I went to school with Christine, so I was interested to see who got it.

ok the city can use the money to put up the no smokeing signs at bus stops in the city to clean up the bus stops and to put benches and trash cans at the bus stops. what a waste of city tax payers money. i live, pay taxes and take the city bus in rancho cucamonga. and if people want to light up while waiting for the bus they should be able to, just be kind enough to other people at the stop and dont light up right next to them. i think every one should go to a bus stop on the same day and time and light up to protest this B.S
