Topeka ups the ante

Rancho Cucamonga, or is it Rancho Googlemonga?, isn't the only city trying to get a piece of Google's fiber optics pie.

Topeka has temporarily changed its name to Google, Kan. in a move to get the search engine giant to take notice. In a proclamation signed by Topeka Mayor Bill Bunten, for the month of March, "the city of Topeka will be known as Google, Kansas -- the city of fiber optics." You can read the proclamation here.

Since it's temporary, I don't think Google, Kan. will appear on Google maps.

Topeka Kansas? I think Rancho Googlemonga is a better name by far. And there is not much in Topeka to hook up to high speed fiber. The neighborhoods are older and most have above ground infrastructure.

Rancho Cucamonga has new neighborhoods with underground infrastructure. The city residents are very tech-savvy. Your typical Rancho citizen drives a BMW, lives in a million dollar home, and works for a corporation. Though the city sounds a little stiff because of the large executive population, the young still rule the city.

One of the strongest reasons for Rancho to be chosen is the average age of 31 years young. Also, during the recent boom years the city was ranked the 6th fastest growing city in the nation. Rancho has many more malls, shops, offices, condos, industry, transit, and homes, homes, homes.

In the northern portion of the city, there are neighborhoods with mansions ranging from 3-4 million dollars without fiber connection. Below the estates, where I live, there are large half million dollar homes on horse property. In the middle of the city there is denser housing and in the south there is a lot of industry. All without high speed internet connections.

Some of the most well known Rancho Googlemonga Corporations include: Ford Motors, Frito-Lays, Mercedes, Mattel, Mission Foods, Mercury Insurance, J.C. Penny, Macys, future Nordstrom, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, Banana Republic, Abercrombie & Fitch, H&M, Swarovski, Coach, .
