Frontier Project gets LEED platinum
Kudos to the Frontier Project, which received LEED platinum certification, the highest distinction given by the U.S. Green Building Council for environmentally friendly buildings. The Cucamonga Valley Water District-led project is among 25 in the state that has received the platinum nod. The Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific, Water + Life Museum in Hemet and the Inland Empire Utilities Agency in Chino are among them.

How much did it cost the ratepayers/taxpayers?
This is such an awesome addition to the city of Rancho Cucamonga. I did not even know about this project until a few months ago and it is amazing. Our city is way ahead of it's time. With a water wise attitude and a solar mindset, our city has become the environmental leader in the I.E. When the economy recovers, future green high tech companies will blanket the southeastern portion of the city (Arrow and Etiwanda). A platinum grade for a platinum city.
Hmmmm....
Where to start on this one?
Cost so far is $15MM, and yes, the CCWD (nay, CVWD) ratepayers are on the hook for this. The last two rate increases are being used to pay off the debt and interest. Ostensibly, the rate increases were presented for other things, but it is really just a revenue shift; i.e., the increases wouldn't be necessary if this boondoggle wasn't built.
But wait, there is more. The $15MM only built the thing, now we have $1-2MM PER YEAR to operate it. This is being funded with the MWD "pass-through" rate increase we are paying.
Now concerning the assertation of "how awesome" this addition is to the city [sic] of Rancho Cucamonga. The CCWD is NOT the City. It is a totally different entity, with its own bureaucracy, elected board, and special interests.
Let's see: environmental leader? I think not. Look at the drought INTOLERANT landscaping, misadjusted sprinklers watering the streets, and the estimated ten tons of air pollution generated each day in the City by the mis-timing of the signal lights.
Oh yeah, what was the carbon footprint for building the boondoggle? A LOT more the any theoretical savings from the LEED calculation.
Arrow and Etiwanda, isn't that where the Toxic Hotspot of the Westend is located (TAMCO Steel)? Certainly not green!
Platinum? Isn't that what they use in catalytic convertors to reduce automobile emissions? Where gonna' need a lot of platinum to clean up the pollution we are generating as a city.
Well done jungle man.
Geo O Jungle:
You need to read up on your city. Plus I didn't say things were going to change overnight. But at least the city is putting in a traffic synchronization system and is going green. Obviously you have never been to the Maloof Botanical Gardens in Alta Loma. I suggest you go, you would love it. CCWD CVWD IS it's own entity and I was in a hurry and I thought I would just write a quick praise and that would be it. I didn't know that I would be graded.
Now to teach the "teacher".
The area behind Walmart all the way to Arrow is a massive piece of property that was going to be rezoned into multiple mixed use developments with very dense condos. But the industrial area did not want other uses such as residential and retail to infringe on industry. The redevelopment agency decided to keep it industrial and chose this area as the FUTURE green tech area, instead of building more condos.
The rest of the industrial area, which is close to a quarter of the city, is poised for redevelopment whereas today I agree it is very underutilized and dirty. That's why it's called redevelopment. They are going to RE develop the Southeast of the city into a major green tech industrial area for the Inland Empire. Of course there will be some dirty industries left here and there but they will be phased out in the far future.
We are (on our way to) a green(er) city.
Gee teach - a little touchy???
Please enlighten me as to your suggested reading list. I've read Clukas' and Stamm's books, along with the General Plan Update, The Fire District Strategic Plan, and the City’s 2010-2011 Consolidated Budgets. The later two being some of the more entertaining works of fiction I've read in a while.
Traffic timing? Please. Until Jack Lam and his traffic engineer are convinced that they have a problem, nothing is going to change. When Williams first ran for office so many years ago (yes, they really had cars back then), she promised to fix this. Likewise with Rex G., and Mayor Kurth. The City actually received two grants to address this, one in 1998 for Baseline Rd, and another in 2008 for the N-S laterals. Not sure what they did with the $$$, but it sure didn’t fix anything. In addition to improving commerce and residents’ quality of life, actually fixing the problem instead of talking about it will go a long way in making us “greener.”
I’m not sure why it’s so obvious to you that I haven’t been to Maloof Botanical Garden? Of course I have, starting with the private invitation when it first opened. More importantly, why do you think this is a green facility? It is not; cool place, but lots of water usage (look at the water main servicing it) and lack of soil conservation. I hope you made it to Sam and Frieda’s old location. You would have loved it!
There is not one piece of evidence that this city is attempting to become green. The City is the LARGEST consumer of water from the CVWD.
Wait a second – I get it. Most educated people consider something to be green whenever the input (water, fuel, energy, etc.) is decreased, and/or the output (waste, emissions, etc.) are decreased.
You must think something is green when it is watered and changes color.
As far as ISP (area behind Walmart and Arrow), I must admit I am confused. The ISP was always in the General Plan, and zoned as industrial (by definition). Although CUP’s were still required. I always thought the City Council, not the RDA made zoning changes? I was not aware that this changed. What can I read to learn more about this important change?
Goethe was right.
Thank you, I've just been looking for information approximately this topic for a long time and yours is the best I have discovered so far. But, what concerning the bottom line? Are you positive concerning the source?|What i don't understood is in truth how you are no longer really a lot more smartly-favored than you may be right now. You're so intelligent.
