On the agenda: Planning Commission
The Planning Commission tonight will discuss an amendment to alter the definition of "church" in the development code. The change will make it clear that ancillary religious activities such as home Bible studies are not part of operating a church. The amendment is intended to give code enforcement officers clearer direction. If passed tonight, the item will be forwarded to the City Council.
Unless an attorney asks for postponement, The Beer Mug could stand to lose its conditional use permit from the commission tonight, thereby losing its ability to serve hard liquor. Sheriff's deputies are prepared to discuss a number of incidents related to the business, including battery and attempted murder. The bar has also been providing live entertainment without a permit, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Meanwhile, McAlan's Pub & Grill, is requesting later hours and more live entertainment. The Haven Avenue business would like to open at 9 a.m. instead of 11:30 a.m. and stay open until 1 a.m. on Thursdays and midnight on weekdays. Currently, McAlan's closes at 11 p.m. weekdays.

LAME. The ritziest city has the crappiest nightlife entertainment. Welcome to Rancho aka Mickeys Toon Town @ Disneyland. There is no drinking, no smoking, no loud music, no dancing, and no fun allowed. If you want to have fun you have to go to Upland? Weird. At this rate Rancho will be banning "fornication" very soon. This is why no one likes Rancho.
I did not know that the police set the policy in this city. A few calls and your business gets shut down by the Sheriff Dept. Looks like this handful of businesses is just too much for the massive suburban police department to handle. Now that's scary. 120 officers in the police force and they can't even handle Omaja Jacks. That should make you feel real safe.
Dear Matt,
I would like to invite you to frequent the beer hunter, or what ever it's called this week. I think you would be impressed with the violence and you too can have the chance of being shot, stabbed, or just having the living s$&t stomped out of you. When a 300 lb Tongan or one of the thugs working the door decide you arn't welcome and you are running out the door, you will proabilly agree with the city and decide this is not what we want in rancho. Please let us know how it all goes for you.
Dear Anonymous,
I have friends who are Tongan so I don't think I will have too many problems. And I don't care what you want in Rancho, if you don't like it then don't go. I agree that the city is turning into a very very lame place with people like you at the forefront of such lameness. The city does not need to be this Disneyland you keep wishing upon a star for. Just take your ball and go home already.
The City really has no idea how to permit and enforce conditions for nightlife entertainment.
One size does not fit all, and the decisions are heavily influenced by, gasp - the thought of a strip club like the Cowgirl when it was in the City. Although you gotta' love the irony of both Omaha Jacks and the Cantina place both being on the same property that the Cowgirl was, and having far more incipient problems.
Really, it is a leadership issue, and that's why we need a new City Manager and City Council. The old ways just don't work. We have population with a median age of 32, and leadership with a median age of 132 (ok I exaggerated a little bit, by a factor of 2X). It is well known within the LE community that a Rancho Sherriff is a plum job; primarily writing contrived traffic tickets and busting the chops of the weak and defenseless. NO way do they sign up for solving crimes, and putting themselves in harms way.
Laws need to be enforced, but permits should not be held hostage to lazy LE not doing there jobs.
So weak leadership combined with an open checkbook for LE, and wanting to be Disneyland is a recipe for no nightlife, no accountability, and more of the same.
It's time to say enough is enough , or in Tongan - Sapat ay sapat na.
The early "Anonymous" post today was scribed by me, Geo O Jungle. Sorry for the confusion and omitting my name.
Gotta' go back to playing my timpanis.
