Rizzo had RC ties

rizzo.jpgRobert Rizzo, who went from being one of the nation's highest paid government employee to being one of the least liked, got his start in this city. Rizzo was in his 20s when he was hired as an administrative aide and eventually became assistant city manager.

Treasurer Jim Frost was mayor at the time and said there wasn't any evidence to show he was anything other than a fine employee.

"He was young and up-and-coming," Frost said. "He seemed to have a knack for city government."

Rizzo stepped down last week after the public learned of his nearly $800,000 salary as a Bell city manager. Rizzo and most of the Bell council members are now about as popular as yacht-loving BP official.
