Rex Gutierrez candidate statement
I thank God for the blessing it has been to serve on the City Council. I thank you, too!Because I believe true representative government is threatened, I have tried to stay close to the people, walking neighborhoods, listening to the concerns and aspirations of all citizens. Our council needs members who will stand up for the dispossessed and defend anyone who is not being heard by City Hall. Thousands, including my enemies, have called on me when they needed help with a neighborhood problem. I am your friend and advocate. With my publication, The Vineyard Press, I have tried to install a sense of community among the people. I have borne you up in your afflictions and in return, you have borne me up in mine.
Together, we have built libraries, a beautiful trail, a senior center, a mall and quick police and fire units. I lobbied hard for Bass Pro Shops and Trader Joe's. I will not rest until our Nordstrom is reality. I will protect our hillsides and complete Central Park. I will defend our citizens against government excess and promote a strong business community.

Rex You have done a lot of good and not bragged about it. Many people don't know that sending the ballons on Veterans Day is Your work and not the Citys.
I think there is something called an outside mall, like the one we have.
When our neighborhood was invaded by Chaffey College students parking on our street (and in front of our mailboxes and driveways), Rex was the only council person to show concern by visiting our neighborhood and talking to the neighbors. He backed up this concern with advice and action to guide us through the city's paperwork/council process. As a neighborhood, we signed four sets of petitions, attended sub-committee meetings, and council meetings as well as generated about ten trees worth of paperwork with arguments as to why there was a problem. As a result, our street now has "Resident Only Permit Parking" and is quiet allowing us to live our lives and children to play safely in the front yards.
Thank you Rex. For being a problem solver, you have my vote.

Rex, your service in this city was exemplary on many, many occasions. I stand behind you and all your work as so many of us do.
Thank you Rex for always being there when needed and when no other elected official would.
