Social host ordinance

| | Comments (2) |
The City Council last night gave the Planning Department direction to draft a social host ordinance for adoption at a later date. A social host ordinance would allow police to cite those who host parties that involve underage drinking. A couple of speakers during the public comment period backed such an ordinance including a representative from Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Inland Valley Drug Free Community Coalition. A first reading of the ordinance is scheduled for Oct. 20.

What a joke. Rancho Cucamonga, California should just change it's name to Mickeys Toontown, Disneyland. The city has multiple empty office buildings, half built neighborhoods in the north, the school districts are faltering, and the regional airport is failing. The city can't even come up with the money to landscape the parkways yet they want to spend more money on an unnecessary ordinance.

And the police department. Didn't they just bring in outside police from other cities to replace the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department officers that were lost to the correctional facility? So we want to create another ordinance yet we cannot keep the basic services like police and fire stable?

Some of the best times of my teenage years were at Rancho house parties. One of the most vivid things I remember about Rancho house parties was how many unnecessary police cars showed up at the end. 10 cars and a helicopter. Calling all cars. When in reality they only needed one car. This "ordinance" is nothing but a power grab by the police so they can further harass teenage CITIZENS and their families. Can anyone say ACLU?

The drinking age should be dropped to 18. You can fight and die in war but you can't go to a bar or dance club? I thought you were an adult when you hit 18? The rest of the western world must think we are nuts. How embarrassing.

Rancho is the 6th safest city in the nation so lighten up a bit. Just because you were never invited to a party in high school does not mean you get to ruin all parties for the next generation. I would have gone crazy as a teenager if I was not "allowed" to blow off a little steam at a high school party. The movie theater and video arcade scene just didn't cut it for most of us. This 1950's style of entertainment gets old fast.

By the way, didn't the teenage daughter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving have a house party and get arrested? Why yes...yes she did.

Global economic collapse and this is what our city is doing? Time to get rid of these boomer babies.
