Is this Gutierrez's swan song?
There are at least two more City Council meetings before the new mayor and perhaps new council members are sworn in but Councilman Rex Gutierrez seems ready to say goodbye.
"Maybe I'll see you again in a few weeks. If not, it's been a wonderful ride," Gutierrez said during council announcements at the close of Wednesday's meeting.

"I've had a number of issues outside the city. Actually, a court case in which I've been limited to what I can talk about, but it will be resolved one way or another. So I want to express my appreciation.
In the year and a half since this problem began with me, we did not have one acrimonious person come to a council meeting and offer some critical or snide remarks. If you followed the city in the past, we've had some years and we've had some meetings that were absolutely chaotic and mean.
I appreciate the graciousness and consideration you as a community gave me and my family as we dealt with this crisis by not adding to the pain. ... I thank you for your patience. Godspeed."
Godspeed Rex, you have been a great councilman and always on the side of the people/citizens.
I hope you and your family will pull through the trial and rise above the negative treatment. There are lots of us that believe in you.

Good riddance indeed, sunshine is the best disinfectant they say, I see clearly who this small time crook is even if found "not guilty" after all juries are not right all the time. Remember that guy named OJ.
Could it be that "Not Fooled" is subconsciously prejudiced. I seem to have heard similar rants. He/she uses the word "sunshine" i.e. bright, white, which Rex is not. Also, "small", & Rex is of small stature. And lastly, O.J., also not white. Have they ever even met Rex and had a discussion? In reading his paper, I just don't see the person "Not Fooled" hates. Viscerally, I might add. He/she needs our prayers.
