Spc. Pallares.jpgThere was sad news this weekend out of Afghanistan, where Spc. Ronnie Pallares, 19, of Rancho Cucamonga died after his unit was attacked by insurgents with an improvised explosive device. Pallares was a graduate of Alta Loma High School.

Capt. Jeffery Donaldson, Pallares' company commander, said the young soldier was the kind of guy who "earns valued friends wherever he goes."

"Uniformly loved by his leaders, I've literally never seen a group so happy to promote someone as when (Pallares') platoon put the rank on his chest," Donaldson wrote in a statement. "Everybody was looking forward to witnessing the incredible potential of Ronnie Pallares -- a fact that makes his early passing so much more painful."

As I wiped a tear from my eye this morning in memory of Ronnie, I have more tears to shed because my son, Navy Corpsman Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Terry is shipping out this Friday on his 4th tour of duty...and this time it is to the southern area of Afganistan. Politics aside, I just ask everyone to pray for ALL OF THEM who are serving our country.
