Who you callin' celebrity?

At the City Council meeting tonight, senior advisory committee member Luella Hairston invited all four members of the council (Mayor Don Kurth was absent) to attend a fundraiser breakfast at Applebee's on Nov. 6.

During the last public comment period before the Nov. 2 election, Hairston said, "I am a candidate for City Council but that's not why I'm here tonight."

Nope. She's here to look for "celebrity servers" to act as waiters for the fundraiser.

"I've already lined up Bill Alexander," she said.

Hairston is selling tickets for the breakfast, at $10.

"I will buy 100 tickets if I win the election," said Councilman Rex Gutierrez.

And here's when the haggling began.

"If you don't win," asked the challenger to the incumbent, "will you buy 50?"

"I'll buy one," Gutierrez said.
