Buquet appointed
The City Council, on a 3-1 vote, has decided to appoint Chuck Buquet, the third highest vote getter in the council member race, to fill the remaining two years of Dennis Michael's term.
"It just makes good, clean sense to me," said Councilwoman Diane Williams.
Councilman Bill Alexander was the dissenting vote. Alexander said Marc Steinorth, who came in second in the mayoral race, should be considered.
"He did have a tremendous amount of votes," Alexander said, referring to the 36 percent of voters who backed Steinorth in a field of four.
Buquet accepted the appointment.
"I would be honored with the appointment," Buquet said. "I look forward for the opportunity to be of service to this great council."

Good to know the new council is capable of making the worst possible choice.
Backdoor deal and negotiations all the way. How convenient Chuckie just happened to be at the meeting ready to accept the bone he was given. There was no discussion. This decision was made behind close doors probably at the Unions offices with the developers providing all the food.
I hope they voted what's best for the City and us the people.
It seems like the same old thing.
Since it seems the choice was between Steinorth and Buquet, the council made the right choice. Both are business owners, a perspective needed on the council. But, only one has any discernable history of community involvement and service.
And did anyone really expect Dennis Michael to appoint Steinorth after the dirty campaign Steinorth ran? That didn't take a back-room deal...
Just as planned, an easy calculation that Gutierrez would not win or could not run, Michael's and William's shoe in's leaving one open spot for their friend to be appointed. Now we have fire union's and developer's represented on the council, how wonderful. It would behoove the citizens of Rancho to keep a sharp eye on who gets contract's and development right's now, it's ripe for fraud and favor's. More of the same politics as usual.
"Rex," you forgot the unnecessary apostrophes in "citizen's" and "politic's"!
