Dog park hours restricted

| | Comments (2) |
The City Council set new hours for the Etiwanda Creek Park yesterday. Pending final approval, dog owners and their pets won't be allowed past 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. on weekends. The hours were set following complaints by neighbors who say there are too many noisy dogs late at night.

Several dog owners and one council gadfly were not pleased with the new hours.

"I propose 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the good dogs, " said John Lyons. "Don't punish the dogs who don't bark."

But like all things in life, one bad apple tends to ruin the whole bunch.

There are like 5 houses that back up against the Rancho Dog park. 1 of them is "connected", somehow they got sheriff deputies on a random weekend morning to prevent people from parking along the city street (public street)! 5 houses have an entire say over a park enjoyed by people throughout Rancho Cucamonga but also Fontana (and certainly other areas). Basically one of them is connected enough to pull this off and the minority impose the will over the majority. The house at the end hired thugs to keep people from walking the city installed horse trail that separates the park from the houses. They even erected a gate. Of course the fire dept had "ZERO PROBLEM" with that. Whoever was able to get deputies from letting people park on THE STREET was able to smooth that one over as well. The whole drama at dog park is born from people who bought those empty model homes for a neighborhood that died before it was built. Dog park was there long before those homes were built. These hours don't directly affect me, but the above stuff the homeowners have pulled is over the top. Riddle me this Rancho Cucamonga, how come you have 2 police CARS at EVERY Pee-Wee football game in the field behind the homes and next to dog park, but no one is complaining about the noise and behavior of those people? This whole thing smacks of wierdness. Now, I have ZERO sympathy for the homeowners. I don't give a care if the dogs there howl to the moon at 100 decibels or bark until their tongues fall off, the homeowners up there are truly most of the problem. Next time, DON"T BUY A HOUSE NEXT TO A DOG PARK OR ANY OTHER PARK FOR THAT MATTER.

Aaron th elaw doesn;t work that way. Just because the "majority" wants something, doesn't make it or right or legal. There are many examples in history, like when whites (majority) said blacks (minority) couldn't own land, vote or marry whites. Even something little like homewonership is protected. If there is a nuisance in the neighborhood, even one barking dog, the owner has a right to sue so they can enjoy their home. Why in the world would they even build a dog park right next to rediential homes anyway?
