Do you trust your government?

| | Comments (9) |
CNN recently conducted a survey and found out 20 percent of Americans polled trusted the federal government; just 13 percent for Sacramento.

At yesterday's special City Council meeting, council members speculated on how they're viewed by the community. Three council members thought their approval rating is near 60 percent, lower than it was before the Bell scandal.

Newly-elected Councilman Bill Alexander thinks just half of residents trust the City Council. Alexander said there's more distrust with recent scandals in this and neighboring cities.

"A good example is what went on with this city with Rex," Alexander said. "Any time you have the FBI and IRS confiscating elected officials' information, there's going to be a natural drop in the trust level. And the county for the last 25 years has been scrutinized."

CNN's poll did not include Rancho Cucamonga so what do you think? What's the public's trust level in local government?

Why should we trust them? None of them have done anything to earn our trust!!!!

Probably closer to single digits.

The older I get the less I trust anyone, especially elected officials. What was that saying again? "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely...?"

Rancho Dad you are speaking about Machiavelli in The Prince. A great lesson in the abuse of power. I doubt the kids today even have a clue what literature is.

Uncalled for to kick one who already is laying down.

Another example is when Alexander tried to get the layer for the fireman elected to City Counsil.

A third when Diane Williams took the credit for us getting our Senior Center. This was at the debate a the center before election.

Government is getting worse and worse, in the sense of corruption. All of these elected officials are currently there serving special interests, and not the citizens. Not even giving credit where it is due. I think the only thing that might change this is having someone run who aren't being paid by special interest, in the sense of campaign donations. Maybe the younger generation who are willing to use their energy, and youthfulness are willing to fight for what the citizens want, instead of interest groups within the city.

Trust? RC council members are little different than state or national leadership. Each one is in their position for some type of personal gain. Might just be as simple as ego and free meals, but I think they will do whatever it takes to get elected and stay in office. I do not trust any of them to do what makes sense for the community or people unless it is popular and benfits them each personally. The integrity starts with the city manager and his department heads who earn respect and pay for results.
