What will happen to the Paul A. Biane Library?

So this is the face of the Victoria Gardens library.

Certainly former Supervisor Paul Biane is innocent until proven guilty. But his arrest yesterday at the Ontario airport, casts a pall over the Paul A. Biane Library. Tomorrow, Biane is expected to be arraigned on multiple felony charges linked to an alleged bribery scheme over the $102 million Colonies settlement.

Next week, the city will discuss its policy on naming rights. Councilman Bill Alexander would like to consider renaming the library.

What do you think? Should the city erase the Biane name from the library regardless of how his trial goes?

I actually had this discussion with a couple of my political friends. While it's good to recognize a benefactor, there's always a risk that the person may do something that brings shame to the name while they're still alive.

Perhaps we should rename it after a dead benefactor, author, and patron of literature instead? Shakespeare is already sitting out front of the library. He'd be a good candidate. :)

Real question is, how did Paul get his name on the library in the first place?

It was the first warning sign of hubris, of arrogance.

And now we all see what happens.

I think we have to honor "innocent until proven guilty". But if he is proven guilty, then renaming the library seems like the right thing to do. However I'm coming to the conclusion that there are simply no honest politicians. How about a philanthropist, artist, or some other, more honorable profession?

dead benefactors?
We need living ones because the City hopes to get more economic help from them.

Personally I think the city should rename the library. It would be a good way to get some much needed financial support to the library by selling the naming rights. Why not "Farmers Library" or "Taco Bell Library".

If memory serves, it was not Biane's idea for the naming, it was the city's.

The money he gave to help fund the library wasn't even his. It was tax money. So shouldn't the library be named for all the taxpayers who were forced to give thier hard earned money?

I think it would be wise not to name anything in the city after any politician seeing that so often they are exposed to be lying crooks as in Rancho's case. Just call it the Rancho Cucamonga Library at Victoria Gardens is that so awful.

Paul said:

I agree with Always Watching. Call it the Rancho Cucamonga Library at Victoria Gardens or just the Victoria Gardens Library. Regardless of the background of the financing, Rancho still is blessed to have such a facility in its limits. There is no way to tell what city "Paul A. Biane Library" is in. Connect the library to the city it's in, so the library's appeal reflects the appeal of our city as a whole.

How did he get his name there to begin with? Just to clarify, he did not solicit naming the library after him. The city made that decision and he really wasn't thrilled about it, but they did it anyway. There was no arrogance on his part. Let's be clear and write the truth. The people at the city know all this, why aren't they admitting it was their idea and not his?
