Goodbye, OSH

OSH.jpgOrchard Supply Hardware, on Foothill Boulevard east of Vineyard Avenue, is closing. A liquidation sale is currently taking place.

OSH isn't exactly a small mom and pop hardware store but compared to the behemoths on the east side of town, it sort of is. OSH filled a hole that was once left long empty when Gemco closed. Remember Gemco? The original big box.

Speaking of big box stores ... Wal-mart is preparing to submit an application at the end of the year to build a store on Foothill Boulevard and Mayten Avenue, according to Planning Director James Troyer. The plan would be to close the current location near the 15 Freeway and build a store facing Foothill near Home Depot.

Wow... it was once a Gemco! I find it odd that Gemco used to be there and I also find it odd that an Osh could even survive in that location with little freeway access, but then again, the 210 did not always extend out to RC. Sad to see another business close in Rancho, a city with waaaaay to many commercial plazas. On another note, I don't quite understand how any Osh manages to stay in business.

Gemco occupied a much bigger space than OSH. They had to completely re-do the plaza after Gemco left. I wasn't around then but I guess the sports complex there was part of Gemco, too.
