In restaurant news ...
With all the restaurants coming and going, it's hard to keep track. Good thing it's not just "going," there are businesses coming, too.
First the sad news. Joey's BBQ on Foothill Boulevard closed last week. Its Upland, Pomona and Chino locations are unaffected. Robin's Dono, a Japanese restaurant on Fourth Street across from Ontario Mills, has also closed.
Here's some good news. Alberto's will take over Joey's BBQ spot. Alberto's is a chain of taquerias with more than 40 locations in Southern California. Cuban restaurant Flamingo Palms is leaving its tiny Archibald Avenue location and moving to the more prominent Fourth Street, in a space where Camille's used to be. Flamingo Palms will be on Archibald for another month. Handel's, the popular ice-cream joint in Upland, is opening another shop on Haven Avenue at the Vons center near the 210 Freeway. Handel's is expected to open mid-February or March. Finally, it was mentioned in this space recently that Felipe's on Archibald and Foothill has closed. Stevie Dee's Diner is expected to take over.
Am I missing anything?

Good Luck to Alberto's...but one of the best and FRIENDLIEST "joints" in town is across the street at Taco Hut. Besides the other location in east Rancho, they also have one at Grove & Philadelphia in Ontario at The Lowes Center. Rumor has it that Sartaj Singh of Antonino's also bought the empty Bobby Baja building...but nothing confirmed yet...or is it?
I know, Bob, I'm worried about Taco Hut across the way. And Chile Red on Archibald and Base Line may survive with arrival of Red Chili but can it survive the arrival of Juanitas? I heard Mr. Singh bought the Bobby Baja's spot and Christophe's in Upland. That's great news.
Any word on when Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill at Victoria Gardens is going to open? This place was supposed to be opened last year. What's the hold up?
Harry's Pacific Grill is closed too? Can you confirm / deny Wendy?
I imagine that T. Keith would look at all the failures and reasses the P/L projections.
I can confirm Harry's is closed. There's a sheriff's notice in the window.
I don't know, Art. I've been meaning to ask somebody. I wonder if it's the poor economy or some different issue. I"ll ask.
We went to go eat at Flamingo Palms on Sat night and showing up in a strip mall in the middle of an industrial area with 0 customers inside, we decided to wait until their fourth st location opened.
That's funny. I went to Flamingo Palms for weekday lunch once and there were no tables available!
