REV rocks Eisenhower...

The Wildcats' journey for a Citrus Belt League title got off to a rousing start Friday night.
REV 52, Eisenhower 6.
A stong defensive effort and the usual talents of running back Chris Polk led the way.
The REV defense allowed just six point to a Ike offense that was averaging over 30 points.
Polk finished with 206 rushing yards, 76 receiving yards and scored three touchdowns.
Up next for the Wildcats is a road game at Yucaipa, which posted a 28-24 victory over Rialto on Friday night.

Props to the RHS P.A. announcer....

I just wanted to single out the nice efforts of the RHS football P.A. announcer.
While Redlands East Valley's P.A. guy tends to ramble and ramble for the advertisers to no end, the RHS guy is constantly keeping the fans informed about Terrier athletics.
Throughout Friday night's game, I heard the announcer single out every RHS sport team and its accomplishments over the week. Even the junior varisty and freshmen teams.
He also does a nice job of letting you know what's on tap for the following week.
I apologize for not knowing you're name, but just wanted to let you know to keep up the good work.

RHS still winless...

The Terriers were unable to put their first W on the board Friday night, falling to Carter High School by a 22-7 score.
RHS head coach Jim Walker was in no mood for words following the loss, taking issue with the officiating crew over several issues and likely a little flustered after another tough effort went for naught.

RHS head coach Jim Walker was in no mood for words following the loss, taking issue with the officiating crew over several issues and likely a little flustered after another tough effort went for naught.
It was a tight 15-7 game in the fourth quarter, as the Terriers were looking to possibly tie the game. But on their first play of the comeback drive, quarterback Jacob Brock tossed an intercpetion, giving the Lions the ball on the RHS 28.
Four plays later, the Lions scored a touchdown to put the game away.
Carter dominated the game on the ground, rushing for 294 total yards and dominating ball possession. Senior running back Ramon Morris was especially effective, rumbling for 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
For the Terriers, senior wide receiver Cody Smith had a solid game with six catches for 89 yards. He turned in the highlight play of the game, hauling in a 23-yard touchdown pass from Brock in the third quarter. With a defender draped all over him, Smith bobbled the ball at first before maintaining possession and was just able to keep his feet inbounds.
It was one of the few RHS bright spots on the night.
On the injury front, junior running back Cameron Phillips left the game in the second quarter and did not return.
Walker said that Phillips suffered a sprained ankle.
RHS will look to get on the winning side of things next Friday when they host Fontana.

Rankings puzzle Han...

How does a defending undefeated league champion get ranked behind a team from its own league?
ACA head girls' volleyball head coach David Han would like to know.

How does a defending undefeated league champion get ranked behind a team from its own league?
ACA head girls' volleyball head coach David Han would like to know.
When the latest CIF Division IV-AA rankings were released earlier in the week, ACA came in fifth right behind league rival Ontario Christian.
Asked about this fact after Thursday's three-game sweep of Loma Linda Academy, Han expressed a sense of shock.
"Really? Oh my goodness," Han said.
Pressed further, Han said the perhaps the voters have a little issue with the Eagles and their coach.
"I would say the politics," he said. "But you know what? Everybody loves to play against me. They want to put me down. But that's okay. It's all part of the game. It's what makes things fun."
A chance for Han and the Eagles to prove the voters wrong will soon present itself. ACA hosts fourth-ranked Ontario Christian this upcoming Thursday.

Arnold and Crowley making noise for RHS...

There's a good reason that RHS head girls' cross country Rod Anzai is all smiles. Not only is his team ranked second in the latest CIF Division I poll, but they also were decisive winners in Wednesday's first of three Citrus Belt League 8-way meets at Prospect Park.
And with super freshman Robyn Arnold winning the girls' race by 32 seconds, the Terriers also got a top-notch freshmen in Megan Crowley.

And with super freshman Robyn Arnold winning the girls' race by 32 seconds, the Terriers also got a top-notch freshmen in Megan Crowley.
"I'm fortunate we got two good freshman in Robyn Arnold and Megan Crowley," Anzai said.
Crowley was the winner in the junior varsity girls' race at 20:55, finishing 16 seconds better than teammate Claire Hauso. That performance comes on the heels of Crowley's win at the Iolani Invitational this past Saturday in the girls' 2-mile novice race.
"She's on the verge of cracking that top seven," said Anzai in reference to the seven members of the varsity lineup. "She's a very competitve runner. I like how she ran today. She took off from the start and never looked back."

UR's Nakamura sidelined...

University of Redlands senior volleyball players Lori Nakamura, the team's top reurning outside hitter, has been sidelined for the past week with a sore ankle.
According to head coach Mari Burningham, Nakamura paid a visit to the doctor on Tuesday and was ordered to wear a boot to minimize the amount she uses her ankle, where she has been suffering pain on the inside and outside.
Burningham is hopeful that Nakamura could return within a week or so.
Nakamura hurt her ankle in a Sept. 18 match against the University of La Verne. She returned after suffering the injury, but was not the same in a three-game loss.
The Bulldogs are currently 9-8 overall and 2-1 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. They will travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday night.

Terriers No. 2, REV moves up to No. 3

A quick glance at the latest CIF rankings that were released Monday meant good news for the Redlands High School girls' cross country team and Redlands East Valley football team.

A quick glance at the latest CIF rankings that were released Monday meant good news for the Redlands High School girls' cross country team and Redlands East Valley football team.
Fresh off another winning performance at the Iolani Invitational, the Terriers are now ranked second in the CIF Division I cross country polls. Only Saugus stands ahead of them.
It seems that even when RHS was out of state, the CIF voters were still paying attention to the Terriers.
Over on the football side of things, REV now stands No. 3 in the latest Inland Division poll with No. 1 Corona Centennial and No. 2 Vista Murrieta in front.
The Wildcats (3-0) will begin their Citrus Belt League this Friday at Eisenhower (3-0).
And let's give a high five to the REV girls' volleyball team, which enters the CIF Division II-A rankings at No. 8. The Wildcats had a perfect week of league play, including an impressive three-game sweep at Yucaipa.
For the complete list of the latest CIF rankings please see Tuesday's Daily Facts.

ACA-LLA volleyball battle this Thursday...

It looks like the girls' volleyball showdown between Arrowhead Christian Academy and Loma Linda Academy is going to arrive sooner than expected. On Thursday at 6:30 p.m., ACA and LLA will square off in the first of two league battles at Roadrunner Gym.
The meeting has been moved up from Oct. 11.
So far ACA and LLA are off to solid starts, the Eagles carry a 3-1 record and No. 5 CIF Division IV-AA ranking into the battle, while the Roadrunners are 8-1 and on the brink of cranking the Top 10.
ACA swept the season series last year en route to a league title.

RHS falls in OT

It looks like a gutsy effort from the Redlands High School football team fell short on Friday night in Fresno.
Clovis East 26, RHS 20
Down 13-0 at the half, the Terriers rallied for 20 points in the second half and held a 20-13 lead in the fourth quarter. But the Timberwolves scored the game-tying touchdown and went on to win in OT.
The Terriers finish the regular season 0-3, but have showed fight and promise in a tough nonleague schedule.
A new season begins Friday at Ted Runner Stadium when the Terriers will begin the defense of their CBL crown against Rialto Carter.

REV conquers another country

The Redlands East Valley football team made a statement Friday night and it was loud and clear.
REV 44, Dominguez 14.

The Redlands East Valley football team made a statement Friday night and it was loud and clear.
REV 44, Dominguez 14.
Up against their third straight high-caliber opponent, the Wildcats pummeled the Dons behind Chris Polk' magical 238 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
"We were good in the first half and great in the second half," REV head coach Kurt Bruich told his Wildcats in the team huddle shortly following the victory.
Once the game was over, much of the talk was how the Wildcats just conquered the three-headed monster of a nonleage schedule that included CIF champion Riverside North, San Bernardino County power Colton and the Dons.
REV senior defensive lineman Quentin Toaila explains: "We had Riveside Country down and San Bernardino County down. All we had to do was LA."
Afterwards, Dominguez head coach Willie Donerson spoke highly of REV's defensive line.
"That defensive line was huge - we couldn't move those guys," he said. "They didn't look that big on film."
After the Wildcats took a 17-7 lead at halftime, Polk scored a 41-yard touchdown on his first run of the second half. He would have runs of 44, 26, 41, 34 and 45 yards in the game.
Now comes Citrus Belt League play for the Wildcats, who have to deemed the overwhelming legue favorites after one impressive three weeks of football.
Eisenhower High School is the lucky team on Friday.

Terriers take to the road....

The Redlands High School football team isn’t the only Terrier spots
team that’s taken a road trip this week, as the RHS boys and girls
cross country teams are taking flight to Honolulu, Hawaii to compete
in the Iolani Invitational.
RHS head coach Rod Anzai is taking a group of 15 runners between the
boys and girls teams and they will be joined by parents and coaches.
The group will depart Thursday morning and compete in Saturday
morning’s 5K race.

“We’ll find out who we’re competing against when we get there,” Anzai
said.
So far, the season has been a good one for the RHS girls, who have
turned first-place performance sat the Don Bosco and Woodbridge
Invitatationals into the No. 3 ranking in the latest CIF Division I
cross country poll.
“The kids are focused to make state,” Anzai said. “The seniors have
really been putting the pedal to the medal.”
Meredith Robie and Elizabeth Ramos, two of the team’s seniors,
recently ran 17:35 and 17:44 times at the Woodbridge meet.
But the top time went to junior Lauren Jacobs, who posted a school
record run of 17:31 to lead the Terriers.
After struggling with injuries last season, Jacobs’ strong run at
Woodbridge is a promising sign to an already strong start to the
season.
“Four girls broke under 18 minutes at Woodbridge,” Anzai said. “It’s
been a team effort.”
While at Hawaii, Anzai plans to take the team to the Arizona Memorial
on Friday and then to a private air force reservation for some
swimming on Sunday.
The team will return Monday and gear up for Wednesday’s first
All-Citrus Belt League meet at Prospect Park.

Fresh off the presses....

The pollsters are done with the lastest CIF rankings and there has been several implicaions regarding local teams. In another big move, the Redlands High School girls' cross country team has seen itself rise all the way to No. 3 in the latest CIF Division I poll. With first-place finishes at the Don Bosco Tech and Woodbridge Invitationals, the Terriers only have two teams (Saugus and Esperanza) to look above them. On the football side, Redlands East Valley continues its ascent up the Inland Division poll at No. 4. With two noteworthy victories over Riverside North and Colton, the Wildcats will look to complete the hat trick against Compton Dominguez on Friday - the No. 1 team in the Western Division. The Arrowhead Christian Academy girls' volleyball team falls from No. 2 to 5 after a week that saw them lost to Calvary Chapel Murrieta, which just happens to be the No. 1 team in Division IV-A. And last but not least is the Redlands High School water polo team, which opened the season with an impressive victory against Murrieta Valley and rose from No. 4 to 3.
