Terriers take to the road....

The Redlands High School football team isn’t the only Terrier spots
team that’s taken a road trip this week, as the RHS boys and girls
cross country teams are taking flight to Honolulu, Hawaii to compete
in the Iolani Invitational.
RHS head coach Rod Anzai is taking a group of 15 runners between the
boys and girls teams and they will be joined by parents and coaches.
The group will depart Thursday morning and compete in Saturday
morning’s 5K race.

“We’ll find out who we’re competing against when we get there,” Anzai
said.
So far, the season has been a good one for the RHS girls, who have
turned first-place performance sat the Don Bosco and Woodbridge
Invitatationals into the No. 3 ranking in the latest CIF Division I
cross country poll.
“The kids are focused to make state,” Anzai said. “The seniors have
really been putting the pedal to the medal.”
Meredith Robie and Elizabeth Ramos, two of the team’s seniors,
recently ran 17:35 and 17:44 times at the Woodbridge meet.
But the top time went to junior Lauren Jacobs, who posted a school
record run of 17:31 to lead the Terriers.
After struggling with injuries last season, Jacobs’ strong run at
Woodbridge is a promising sign to an already strong start to the
season.
“Four girls broke under 18 minutes at Woodbridge,” Anzai said. “It’s
been a team effort.”
While at Hawaii, Anzai plans to take the team to the Arizona Memorial
on Friday and then to a private air force reservation for some
swimming on Sunday.
The team will return Monday and gear up for Wednesday’s first
All-Citrus Belt League meet at Prospect Park.
