Citrus Belt League girls' tennis seedings...

The Citrus Belt League girls' tennis prelims and finals are set for this Monday and Tuesday respectively at the University of Redlands tennis courts. According to RHS head coach Sean Comadena, plans are still set for the event to take place on these days, but with several teams still having to squeeze in CBL tennis matches that were postponed last week, the event could be moved.
Fortuntately, the teams have all week to get the matches in.
The reigning CBL champion Terriers hold down the majority of the top seeding in the singles and doubles' draws, with A.B. Miller, Redlands East Valley and Yucaipa also having seeded players.

Below are the seedings:
Singles seedingsNo. 1 seed - April Scatliffe (Redlands)
No. 2 seed - Gabrielle Alford (Redlands East Valley)
No. 3 seed - Maria Mendez (A.B. Miller)
No. 4 seed - Allison Wong (Redlands)

Doubles seedingsNo. 1 seed - Paloma Vazquez/Janay Palicte (Redlands)
No. 2 seed - Brianna Grozak/Alyssa Libao (Redlands)
No. 3 seed - Trisha Williams/Ellen Smith (Yucaipa)

No CIF polls for next week...

A recent CIF press release noted that the CIF polls, which are released every Monday will not be posted next week. Here's the complete press release:

LOS ALAMITOS – Due to the devastating fires around Southern California that has caused massive cancellations of sporting events throughout the section, the CIF Southern Section Media Department will not have a poll on Monday, October 29.
We will attempt to have a poll again on Monday, November 5.

CBL football games in limbo

With the local sports schedules all jumbled due to the ongoing wildfires, a meeting this morning between the eight Citrus Belt League school principals will decide the fate of the Week 8 slate of CBL football games.
While Redlands East Valley has already made the proper plans to play Carter High School tonight in La Quinta, it appears possible that all four games this week could be cancelled and not played at all.
RHS athletic director Ken Morse hinted that it's a real possibility, noting that there's an "80 percent" chance that the Terriers' game tonight against A.B. Miller may not go as scheduled.
If the principals decide to cancel this week altogether, the playoff picture in the CBL could see some unexpected tweaks.
Until then, let's hope a proper decision is made.

New boys soccer coach at RHS...

Redlands High School athletic director Ken Morse confirmed Wednesday that Gerald "Mac" Brey has been named the new coach for the RHS boys' soccer team.
Brey coaches club soccer out of Beaumont according to Morse.
"He was very impressive in his interview," Morse said. "We're looking forward to him coming to RHS."
Brey will take over for coaching veteran Claudio Rivas, who enjoyed two solid years as coach of the Terrier boys.
According to Morse, Rivas will now coach at Yucaipa High School and also focus on his club soccer coaching duties.
Rivas' resignation was made official on Sept. 10.

REV Volleyball Classic set for Saturday morning...

A total of 15 volleyball teams will gather this Saturday morning for the 2007 Redlands East Valley Volleyball Classic. Locally, the tournament will feature Arrowhead Christian Academy, Redlands High School and host Redlands East Valley.
The 15 teams will broken down into five-team pools, with each team playing two games up to 15. After pool play, the teams will be placed in bracket play until a champion is decided.
Among the more interesting things will be if the Wildcats, who have not suffered a loss in over a month, can set up a showdown with Riverside King, which is ranked No. 3 in the latest CIF Division II-A poll (REV is ranked sixth). It should also be fun to see how gutty ACA fared against a field consisted of larger high schools and CIF Divisions.
Below are the three tournament pools.
Make sure to arrive early - the volleyball begins at 8 a.m., and is expected to last throughout the day.

Liby earns weekly honor for CSUSB

Cal State San Bernardino and Redlands High School 2006 graduate Katie Liby has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer Player of the Week.

Cal State San Bernardino and Redlands High School 2006 graduate Katie Liby has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer Player of the Week.
Liby joined the Coyotes for August in preseason drills and has flourished since.
This past week, Liby scored the game-deciding goals in home victories against Humboldt State and Sonoama State.
Liby, a 5-9 midfielder/foward, scored the only goal of the match in the 1-0 triumph over Humboldt State and scored with 6:44 left in the second half for a 2-1 defeat of Sonaoma State.
The two conference victories were CSUSB's first since October of 2005, snapping a 27-game winless streak.
So far, Liby has a team-high five goals and is one shy of the conference lead of six.
Liby has been an instrumetnal player for the Coyotes, who are making strides after a tough 2006 season. Under interim head coach Diego Bocanegra, the Coyotes are 5-5-2 overall and 2-5-1 in CCAA play. This comes on the heels of a 2006 season that saw the Coyotes finish 1-16-2 overall and a lowly 0-14-2 in conference.

Lamb pulling double duty...

Redlands High School boys' water polo coach Jeff Lamb confirmed Tuesday that he will also take the reigns over for the RHS girls' water polo team.

Redlands High School boys' water polo coach Jeff Lamb confirmed Tuesday that he will also take the reigns over for the RHS girls' water polo team.
Lamb, who also pulled the off the feat for a year at Redlands East Valley, will take over for Matt Fry, who guided the RHS girls to the CIF Division V title game during the 2006-07 season.
While the Terriers did lose scoring sensation and four-year standout Brooke Vessey, Lamb is excited about the possibilties for his second water polo team.
"It's a good team," Lamb said. "We're bringing lots of girls back. There's no Brooke, but we got some girls that have stepped it up. The girls are very coachable and they want to win. Some of them are looking for a club team to play for and I encoruage that fully."
Among the team's top returning players include Sharon Dyer, Doris Tran, Emily Haws and goalkeeper Carly Miller, who started for the Terriers in last year's title match.

Baseball playoff predictions...

We'll try to stay away from the professional sports talk here at Caesar's Corner, but I can't help myself when it comes to playoff predictions. So here we go:

American League Division Series
Indians over Yankees
Red Sox over Angels
American League Championship
Indians over Red Sox

National League Division Series
Phillies over Rockies
Diamondbacks over Cubs
National League Championship
Phillies over D-Backs

World Series
Phillies over Indians

Overview: Call it a gut feeling, but I like the Indians to take out the mighty Yankees (depite losing the season series 6-0) and the Red Sox to edge the Angels in a classic series. Over in the NL, I'll take the surprising Diamondbacks over the Cubbies and the Phillies to outslug the Rockies. Then I'll go with the Indians over the Red Sox and the Phillies to reign over Arizona in the championship series.
In the Fall Classic, I'm taking the Phillies and their mighty bats over the hard-nosed Indians in seven games.
