Cal State San Bernardino and Redlands High School 2006 graduate Katie Liby has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer Player of the Week.
Liby joined the Coyotes for August in preseason drills and has flourished since.
This past week, Liby scored the game-deciding goals in home victories against Humboldt State and Sonoama State.
Liby, a 5-9 midfielder/foward, scored the only goal of the match in the 1-0 triumph over Humboldt State and scored with 6:44 left in the second half for a 2-1 defeat of Sonaoma State.
The two conference victories were CSUSB's first since October of 2005, snapping a 27-game winless streak.
So far, Liby has a team-high five goals and is one shy of the conference lead of six.
Liby has been an instrumetnal player for the Coyotes, who are making strides after a tough 2006 season. Under interim head coach Diego Bocanegra, the Coyotes are 5-5-2 overall and 2-5-1 in CCAA play. This comes on the heels of a 2006 season that saw the Coyotes finish 1-16-2 overall and a lowly 0-14-2 in conference.
