REV volleyball headed to the Big Game...
The Redlands East Valley girls' volleyball team gave the school a good dose of Girl Power on Tuesday night, advancing to the championship game of the CIF-Southern Section Division II-A playoffs after a hard-earned 25-12, 26-24, 23-25 and 25-20 semifinal victory over second-seeded South Torrance.
Tuesday's victory advances the Wildcats to the championship game against top-seeded North Torrance and is the first CIF Finals girls' volleyball showing for the school.
After a routine first-game victory, the turning point of the match came in the second game. Down 20-13 at one stretch, the Wildcats used a 10-2 run to take a 23-22 lead, ultimately pulling out a close victory.
The Wildcats nearly swept the match before a late rally fall short in the third game. But they took care of the business in the fourth game, controlling things throughout.
Heralded freshman Krista Vansant hammered home a match-high 25 kills, coming through with clutch kills at seemingly every stop. Sophomore setter Johnna Fouch continued her stellar postseason play, totaling 41 assists, 13 digs and three aces.
The championship game will be played at Cypress College on either Friday or Saturday. While no one knows for sure, some figure the Wildcats will play on Saturday since they compete in a higher CIF Division.
