Terriers fall in semifinals of Rancho Verde tournament...
The Redlands High School girls’ basketball team was dealt its first loss of the season Friday night, dropping a 72-48 contest to Ontario Colony High School in the semifinals of the Rancho Verde Tournament.
“We just didn’t execute on offense very well,” head coach Joe Shepard said. “Colony was very aggressive and did a good job defensively.”
The Terriers could never gain control against the Titans, falling behind 19-13 after the first quarter and trailing by as much as 20 in the third. A spirited 11-2 rally to close the third quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers from Alina Astielan, helped the Terriers draw to within 49-40 heading into the fourth.
But Colony (9-2) turned up the intensity, outscoring the Terriers 23-8 in the final quarter and turning the game into a rout.
Shepard said the game was a needed experience for his team, which had victories of 20 points or more in five of their first six games.
“We needed to be challenged,” he said. “We play A.B. Miller next week and they play with the same intensity. We’re still 6-1 – I can’t argue with that one.”
Astielan led the Terriers with 14 points, followed by Emily Vore with nine.
The Terriers will conclude play tonight in tournament against either Rancho Verde or Rialto for third place.
