Your 2007 San Bernardino Kiwanis Champions: Redlands High School
The Redlands High School boys’ basketball team added some more hardware to the trophy case Saturday night, claiming the 2007 San Bernardino Kiwanis Championship with a convincing 82-59 victory over crosstown rival Redlands East Valley.
The victory caps a perfect nonleague season for the Terriers, who will take a 14-0 record into the remainder of their Citrus Belt League schedule.
Senior shooting guard Josh Green was awarded MVP honors of the tournament. He scored a game-high 25 points and was the key player that helped the Terriers turn a competitive 41-33 game at halftime into a 49-33 advantage just two minutes into the third quarter. Green drilled two 3-pointers and scored a basket in the opening two minutes of the quarter, putting the Terriers ahead for good.
Junior Tristan Kirk (17 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals) was awarded the Tom Fox Memorial Award for Most Inspirational player for the second straight year.
RHS juniors Rickey Peetz and Nate Fultz and REV seniors Robert Ellis and Jamell Simmons were named to the all-tournament team.
The victory completes a mission for the Terriers, who felt they let last year’s Kiwanis title slip away to San Gorgonio and had a dedicated focus in winning this year’s title.
Overall, the Terriers defeated four opponents by an average of 24 points.
