Yucaipa prevails over Redlands in CBL battle for first place...

With first place in the Citrus Belt League on the line, the Yucaipa High School girls' soccer team took a 2-1 victory over Redlands on Friday evening.
The Thunderbirds scored on a pair of set pieces, getting a goal from junior Amanda Simpson for a 1-0 lead and then freshman Tina Shoffeitt headed in a April Moreno throw-in for the game winner just minutes before halftime.
Yucaipa's first goal came after RHS goalkeeper Charlene Roorda hauled in a dangerous free kick, yet was unable to maintain control of the ball. Simpson pounced on the ball for the score.
RHS junior Hannah Carroll tied the game at 1-1, picking up a loose ball and ripping a goal right past goalkeeper Jessica White on the far post side.
The Terriers did a good job of maintaining ball control in the first half, yet were unable to get a second goal.
Yucaipa did a better job of adjusting to its more physical style in the second half and the Terriers were unable to generate any quality chances.
Carroll did have a breakway opportunity late in the match, but her kick was high.
The Thunderbirds improved to 11-0-1 and 4-0 in league. With wins over RHS and Redlands East Valley, head coach Shelia Huggins noted that one of the toughest parts of her team's CBL schedule is done.
Meanwhile, the Terriers fall to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in league. They will compete in the San Gorgonio Winter Classi beginning on Wednesday.
