Bulldogs edge La Verne in men's hoops...

Three players scored in double figures for the University of Redlands men's basketball team, which posted a 57-54 victory over the University of La Verne on Saturday night.
Senior Dave Thomas scored a team-high 14 points, followed by 12 from senior Daniel Markus and 10 from sophomore guard Patrick Coffey,
The Bulldogs led by as many as 16 points in the first half and held a 38-26 lead thanks to a 14-of-27 shooting effort (51.9 percent) in the first half. A woeful 5-of-23 effort from the field nearly doomed the Bulldogs in the second half, but they were able to hold on for the victory.
UR (8-8, 3-2 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) will travel to Cal Lutheran University (13-3, 3-2 SCIAC) on Wednesday night.
Currently, four teams stand tied for second place in the conference with 3-2 records. Occidental holds first place with a 4-1 mark.

Ricky Peetz's game-winning 3-pointer...

Here it is - Redlands High School junior Ricky Peetz's game-winning 3-pointer from this past Friday againt Eisenhower High School that kept the Terriers undefeated and in the driver seat for a Citrus Belt League title. I'm sure I'm not the only one - but I'm fairly certain the officials made the right call.

REV's Mecate in quarterfinals at 5-Counties Invitational

Redlands East Valley freshman 103-pounder Chris Mecate went undefeated in Day 1 action at the 5-Counties Invitational and will compete in the Round of 8 today.
Mecate won his first match by pinfal at 53 seconds and has recorded 6-1 and 6-2 victories.
The standout freshman will face top-seeded Zach Zimmer of Clovis West in today's quarterfinal round.
Fellow REV teammates Erick Rodriguez and Ben Walters suffered losses in Day 1. Rodriguez was dealt a 13-3 defeated in a quarterfinal match against Vista's Derek Dixon, while Walters was pinned by Vista's Chris Escobar at 5:57 in the second round.
Rodriguez and Walters did rebonds with victories after their losses - Walters with two and Rodriguez with one - and still are in the running for third place.

ACA soccer still perfect...

The Redlands High School boys' basketball team is not the only team in town going the undefeated route.
The Arrowhead Christian Academy boys' soccer team continued its winning ways, notching an impressive 6-3 road victory at Ontario Christian.
Seniors TJ Pearce and Alan Supernaw did the damage, scoring three and two goals respectively for the Eagles, who outscored their league foes by a 18-4 margin with the first round of league play.
ACA (16-0-2 overall) now gets the added benefit of facing its two toughest league foes (Aquinas and OC) at home in Round 2 of CL action.

Peetz's 3-pointer keeps RHS perfect...

It was definitely one to remember for the Redlands High School boys' basketball history books.
Junior guard Ricky Pet’s 3-pointer from the top of the key with 2.9 seconds remaining, lifted the Terriers to a stunning 63-62 come-from-behind victory at Eisenhower on Friday night.
The victory keeps the Terriers a perfect 19-0 and more importantly a perfect 7-0 in the opening round of Citrus Belt League play.
Down 61-48 with 4:08 left in the game, the Terriers closed the game with a stunning 15-1 run, putting the clamps on defense and getting hot at just the right moment.
The game boiled down to the Terriers' final possession.
Down 62-60 with 9.5 seconds remaining, the Terriers opted for the win instead of overtime.
And it was Peetz, who rose to the occasion.
He took the ball at the top of the key and after looking at his options; he fired up the game winner.
Once the ball fell through the hoop, there was a commotion about whether the shot was an actual 3-pointer.
It clearly was, as Peetz used a small fadeaway to distance himself for the shot.
"I faded away and pushed off a little bit," said Peetz in the visitors locker room shortly following the game. "And then I just stepped back and hit the shot. It felt good."
When asked if he thought his 3-pointer was going to be called back, Peetz was positive his shot was good.
"I didn't think they would, I didn't really think they could," he said. "What were they going to do?"
Tristan Kirk's steal on Ike's ensuing inbounds pass sealed the remarkable victory for the Terriers, who are now the clear-cut No. 1 team in CIF-Division II-AA and have to be considered a heavy favorite to win a CBL title with several of their big CBL games (REV, Ike and Miller) at home.
Clearly an RHS fan was thinking the same, giving head coach Brad Scott a couple of oranges following the victory.
"Gifts," remarked a smiling Scott.

Redlands East Valley 130-pound senior Eric Rodriguez remained undefeated, capping an impressive performance at Saturday's Temecula Valley Tournament with an 8-7 victory over top-seeded Derek Dixon of Vista.

Overall, the Wildcats finished eighth out of 42 teams and had four wrestlers place.
Of those four, three reached the championship match.
Standout freshman 103-pounder Chris Mecate, who was seeded seventh, lost a close 2-0 decision to top-seeded and undefeated Jeremy Gendreau of St. John Bosco.
It was Mecate's first loss of the season.

Wildcat Shootout washed away yet again...

It seems that Mother Nature doesn't want Redlands East Valley's Wildcat Shootout to take place.
The annual soccer tournament was washed away yet again on Saturday for the second time this season.
The REV and RHS girls' soccer teams were slated to compete in the tournament.
According to head coach Cristina Ballard, the Wildcats will still attempt to hold the tournament on Jan. 12 and 19.
"We're hoping," Ballard said. "We're trying really hard."
Hopefully, the third time is the charm.
