REV's Rodriguez takes first at Temecula Valley wrestling tourney...

Redlands East Valley 130-pound senior Eric Rodriguez remained undefeated, capping an impressive performance at Saturday's Temecula Valley Tournament with an 8-7 victory over top-seeded Derek Dixon of Vista.
Rodriguez could have made a strong case for lower weight Most Valuable Player, winning three matches by pinfall and another by 14-6 decision.
Overall, the Wildcats finished eighth out of 42 teams and had four wrestlers place.
Of those four, three reached the championship match.
Standout freshman 103-pounder Chris Mecate, who was seeded seventh, lost a close 2-0 decision to top-seeded and undefeated Jeremy Gendreau of St. John Bosco.
It was Mecate's first loss of the season.
In the 125-pound final, fifth-seeded Ben Walters was pinned by North Torrance's second-seeded Ryan Giovenco at 4:19.
REV's other place was 152-pounder Anthony Coronado, who finshed eighth.
The Wildcats will now get ready for a crucial Citrus Belt League dual on Thursday against Carter High School.
Both teams are 4-0 in the CBL.

Ceasar, I just wanted to "thank you" for the blog and coverage you posted re the REV wrestlers. I was so excited to read it. It's great to see these wrestler's get recognized for their accomplishments. They work so hard to be the best. I receive the paper but did not see an article on the Tem. Valley Tournament. Will it be printed? Also, as you know, the Carter/REV dual is this Thursday. Can you write an article on it so we can get Redlands support at the meet? Thanks again. Valerie (proud mother of Erick).
