Kobe Bryant said that if the Lakers don't bring Jerry West back and give him full control of the team, he wants to be traded. Is Kobe right? Do the Lakers need a new direction to become championship contenders again?

Kobe has every right in the world to express himself to management and speak out on the current condition ot the Lakers. Sorry! Kupchap has not done anything to be considered a Proven GM. All of this talk that Jerry West was grooming him to become this good GM when he left the team is a buch of crap. The problem is that the Media has such a dislike for this person, that it does not make any difference what he says he will always be at fault in there EYE's. What he said is no different them what any other athelete would say. If if was Lebron James, or Dwayne Wade saying these things it would not have received all of this attention. The team has no heart besides Kobe and Lamar Odom. Let's look at some of Kupchap's moves since he was handed the job.(oh! by the way did the Lakers still owe him money) Chris Mihm - SOFT, stays hurt and has no basketball smarts of a big men. Kwame Brown - his ego is what his game should be "Confidence. Terrible hands, someone call Allstate please. Brian Cook - Soft, good shot but cannot do anything else. Very inconsistent. Vladimir - did not do enough homework on this guy.(bust) Luke Walton- average-everyone talks cerebral player-but will never be better than a 14 point scorer a game (MAYBE). Lamar Odom- Always had big potential! due to injuries will it ever happen?? Turiaf - Not a bad pick-up. Can become a good role player. Aaron Mckie- (KUPCHAP- what a joke!)Maurice Evans- "ok at best. Not sold on him at all. Smush Parker - Mentally, just do not have it to be a starting point guard in this league. Shammond Williams (KUPCHAP-this was the best you could find " to give away 2 million (another joke). Jordan Farmer - Ok selection- but would'nt have Daniel Gibson fom Texas fitted the triangle better with his outside shooting and size.(could be a starter down the road- plays with heart) Sasha- plays hard but not with his mind. This was a 1st round selection KUPCHAP! He should be paying dividens by now. Now that I have looked at the entire roster, you tell me if if management has been making the right moves since Shaq has been gone. Oh! I forgot this young promising talent (Andrew Bynum) who Jim Buss is so enarmored with. GIVE ME A BREAK! He does not show any emotions for the game, no drive, always holding his head down and hands up high while 6ft guards drives on him and get the bucket and ONE.(NO DEFENSIVE PRESENCE FOR A 7 FOOTER. The only fire he has ever showed is when he went up against Shaq two years ago and made a nice moved and dunked on him, then came back down court and shoved Shaq and almost lost his career. But you keep hearing he's a project give him time. All of the Lakers current big men should go to see the Wizard of OZ and ask for some HEART. But you are saying Kobe has no right to speak his mind about this SO CALLED TEAM. The Lakers need someone to come in and make the right personel moves, this three headed monster they have now(Kupchap, Jim Jr.,Jeanie ) is not going to WORK!!Give the people of LA what they are use to a very good team that is use to competing year in and out for CHAMPIONSHIPS. The state of the Western Conference is stronger than ever. Therefore, it will take someone who is willing to make some creative moves to get this team back at the top. After Shaq was traded, Ray Allen said in 2 or 3 years, Kobe will get tired of losing and will demand a trade. Kobe deserves what he is getting now, but he is not the only one who gets all the blame; Buss and Kupchak are also.
Shaq, even in the twilight of career, still is a thousand times better what the Lakers now supposedly have as centers. I used to be an LA Lakers fan... you're wrong... Kobe is right (even though I'm not totally in his corner). The performance of the other Lakers, coaches and management this last season was absolutely embarrassing considering the storied history of this franchise. Someone needs to tell Jerry Buss to pay less attention to his little cadre of starlets and more attention to his team. Bring Jerry West back and give him whatever he wants for whatever he's willing to do!

Kobe has always been an impertinent little child. Re: Hatten comment. Who is LeBron James winning with? Kobe created this problem vis a vis Shaq, and now he wants more talent around him? Well, there's not enough enough talent in the universe to get around his oversized head. Let's call it as it is, Kobe is woefully immature, likely because he's never been told "No". He has Mike Tysonitis, or Michael Jacksonitis. A superstar well before growing up, he's surrounded by sycophants and gets no real advice. He has no friends to speak of. Why is that? Why did he get married at what 22?
And Jim Hill is a well known suck up when it come to journalism. To raise his up as an example of jouranlistic intergrity is absurd. Kobe is a well documented liar. So I believe the SI reporter over Hill. Gee, Kobe said he never said that. Get a clue.

Anyone who thinks the laker organization is doing a good job at recruiting and bringing in talent is a fool. West was the only GM with a clue of building dynasties. mitch was not a good player, GM or basketball mind. the Buss family has allowed things to spiral out of control. Kobe is the only good thing that has happen for the laters in the past 3 years. Changes need to be made now not later. Kobe is right!!!!!!!

After Shaq was traded, Ray Allen said in 2 or 3 years, Kobe will get tired of losing and will demand a trade. Kobe deserves what he is getting now, but he is not the only one who gets all the blame; Buss and Kupchak are also.
Shaq, even in the twilight of career, still is a thousand times better what the Lakers now supposedly have as centers. It is a shame for Kobe and Shaq who could not work things out between themselves, but Kobe is the one who set out to prove himself the NBA best player by trying to win a championship without Shaq. Last words, Kobe is a fabulous player but a very lousy teammate; he is no MJ.
The Lakers are in a sorry state, They should trade Kobe for 2 or 3 good players.

Kobe is right on....He should continue to speak his mind and put pressure on Mitch and the rest of the management to surround him with DECENT players. This B.S. of Smush Parker, Sasha Vujacic, Shammond Williams, Brian Cooke has got to stop, and Kobe speaking his mind will hopefully make something happen.

shaq was a whiny, selfish player and person, but you all liked him because he was goofy and made jokes. Lebron is an egotistical young man that had to be lectured by Bruce Bowen last summer not to treat the admin people like servants.
All of these stars have their skeletons yet a lot of people choose only to see it in 1 player.
Shaq was as much to blame as Kobe and was so egotistical that he wouldn't resign at less than $30 million. Shaq forced the trade and then realized that he had to settle for less or else he'd be paid peanuts in the twilight of his career. Shaq stuck it to the Lakers on the way out because of his childish antics and because of 1 stroke of luck was able to win another championship. Think of it, he plays in the East, the WEAKER conference. Sub-500 teams get into the playoffs over there time and time again.
Dilbeck is a media-moron. He bases this story out of 1 article he read yet discounted the other 4 that quoted Kobe saying he didn't want to be traded. Great homework, it really spells out what journalism is today.
Write about Shaq's ineptitude. Write about Shaq's ego. Write about Shaq complaininig about the talent on the Lakers team back when. Write about Shaq blasting out, calling out his teammates. Write about Shaq disparaging a young Kobe. Write about Shaq being selfish after his stint with the Magic.
Oh wait, he's a media darling because he says funny things sometimes so we can't trash him. Good job of reporting the TRUTH, instead of propaganda. Isn't there an oath or pledge that you journalists need to swear to?

I myself was a bit dismayed that on Memorial Day the Daily News gave Dilbeck and Kobe the Front Page leading story! What’s up with that? Kobe has gotten to the point where time is ticking and he must apply MORE pressure no matter who it offends! We are constantly barraged in the TV, Radio and print media that he is the Second Coming of MJ! But MJ without Scottie and the supporting cast did NOT do well.
And yes his players have NOT responded. Going through his later playing years like Kevin Garnet in the god-forsaken frozen north is waste of talent.
Kobe wants no part of that drill you can just believe!
Out west here the Lakers are pathetic and he wants changes…. Loud and clear!

Let's see. The drama queen Kobe complains and Shaq is gone. Shaq wins NBA title. Who's still in the playoffs as we speak? Yup, R. Horry and D. Fisher. What the Lakers have to do is trade Kobe, free up some cash, and acquire some quality TEAM players. Kobe will never win another title without other superstars on the same team. His ego and his ball-hogging 50+ points per game will never win a championship. Please trade him Lakers.

The team is under more turmoil from a management standpoint than ever. Kobe sees that and knows with the management divided and not on the same page, how can they possibly make the right moves.
The communication within Laker land has broken and Kobe should know a lot about communication as he went through the Shaq-Kobe mess.
Applaud the guy for caring and not just collecting the 88 million left on his contract and for having the STONES to speak up.
He didn't demand nothing. He said it makes sense to hire a guy whom the Lakers were on 1 page with for 18 yrs.
The LOGO is his name.

I used to be an LA Lakers fan... you're wrong... Kobe is right (even though I'm not totally in his corner). The performance of the other Lakers, coaches and management this last season was absolutely embarrassing considering the storied history of this franchise. Someone needs to tell Jerry Buss to pay less attention to his little cadre of starlets and more attention to his team. Bring Jerry West back and give him whatever he wants for whatever he's willing to do!
