Medical Marijuana: California vs. Washington, D.C.
California voters approved Prop. 215, legalizing medical marijuana use in the state. The federal government still prohibits it, setting up a clash of constitutional proportions. Do you believe the state or federal government should be in charge of regulating marijuana use?

The Constitution says it's the states power.
Besides, it's a waste of time and money to persecute pot smokers.
Let's use the money to go after Illegal Immigrants instead!

Stop the hypocrisy! Government refuses to enforce immigration laws while it enriches organized crime and law enforcement bureaucracy in this contrived "war on drugs." Just like Prohibition against alcohol in history, it's a losing war for the public. Government has no business dictating what people do to themselves and to each other when their personal choices have little or no effect on others. The money flowing to organized crime and into drug enforcement bureaucracy could be much better spent on infrastructure like new freeways and repairing aging bridges, new airports, the U.S. military, education, drug treatment centers, and health care.
It's time this country get past its silly Puritan ethics and hangups and move toward decriminalization of drugs and other harmless vice crimes. This is not an endorsement of any of them. No doubt, drugs can cause problems with health, families and safety. But society should deal with those who use drugs and alcohol as an excuse to commit real crimes and punish them severely rather than wasting effort and money on recreational users who harm nobody but themselves.

Good job DEA on enforcing existing marijuana laws! And good job by the Glendale, etc. police on the recent pot raid! Making the real effects of marijuana known especially the dangers posed to other drivers and passengers --that's important. Anyone curious about the actual harm of marijuana should read the DEA article link.

If pot was legal there wouldn't have been a pot farm in the hills of Glendale and the police could be looking for real criminals.
Agreed there is no excuse for DUI with ANY substance, but...
Compare the marijuana deaths with alcohol or Legal prescription drugs deaths.
Don't forget to read about the worse effects of alcohol consumption...

There are no known deaths from marijuana overdose...

Stephen Sidney, M.D., British Medical Journal (9/20/03, Vol. 327, pp. 635-635): "No acute lethal overdoses of cannabis are known, in contrast to several of its illegal (for example, cocaine) and legal (for example, alcohol, aspirin, acetaminophen) counterparts."

The DEA is just using these businesses to make "glamour busts". If you remember back in 1998 Rex Lugar kicked off his Governor campaign by raiding all the dispensaries in San Francisco. Today, medical marijuana is safe and sound on Market Street and Mr. Lugar has become politically irrelivant.
