Angelenos can't drive

And we now have documented proof -- blogger Michael Shen highlights LA's poor driving at his blog lacantdrive.com, where he claims local drivers are "second only to New Jersey" as the worst drivers in the entire country." What drives you crazy about other drivers in LA?

People who endanger others by reckless driving should have their licenses taken away for a year on the first offense. Add a year for every succeeding offense. If they drive without a license they should go to jail, starting with a month IN ADDITION to having their license taken away, and an extra month with every succeeding offense after that. These are HUMAN LIVES and FAMILIES we're talking about here.

The worst drivers on the road are orientals and w/a cell phone they are deadly
thats not typing it fact...

Why is it you can drive the length of this state and never see anyone getting pulled over yet you see hunderds of traffic violations daily during your commute. The driver using his cell phone camera while operating his vehicle is still a distracted driver. I don't care how safe he thinks he's being. His mind is not on his driving but on finding traffic violations to help promote a false idea that he will some how make drivers aware of their poor driving habits by posting them on a website. When you have millions of cars and trucks and only a handful of officers to enforce traffic laws some drivers will continue to drive like total reckless idiots who care less about your safety. Put your cell phone away, place both hands on the steering wheel and listen to music.

Ever wonder why it is only here in S. California that drivers regularly cross double yellow lanes or don't use turn signals?Blame the DMV for that.

I know for a fact that a lot of drivers get their licenses by hiring driving instructors with connections inside the DMV. People who don't hire these instructors usually fail their driving exams, but once you hire them and take their 1-hour course (they just let you drive around, you don't learn anything), you can take the driving test right away with no appointment needed (connections!), your instructor is buddy-buddy with people inside the DMV (and probably gives them a cut of her fees), and you pass for sure, without needing to know how to drive properly.

I guess these are the same driving instructors that illegal immigrants hire to get their CA driver licenses.

I'll bet one leadfoot and raise you a texting teenager. Maybe it's because my dad was a pilot, but I've always figured occupancy of the left front seat meant you paid attention to the road. Now that doesn't mean be a robot, but a bit of common sense might be applied. I've had women in BMWs wave their phones and tell me they were texting. That would be OK at a stoplight; but on the 118 W at 5:30?!?? Honorable mention has to go to all of the Cambry drivers who traded in their Cadillics but still drive down the center of the street, people who do 55 in the fast lane while traffic is moving 65 ( slower traffic goes to the right, that would be the foot on your accelerator). The right turn from the left lane artist, ( go around the block) and last but not least, a prayer for all the driving instructors in Chinatown.

Most LA drivers are good motorists. But when driving in West LA the drivers are less courteous. Here in the South Bay you almost never hear a honk. If you let someone in they will usually pass that and on help someone else out. But if you cut someone off or do something else stupid, that also has a ripple effect. I know cause I'm guilty of it.

Just one thing that bothers me here in the souther california hiways SLOW left lane drivers! If your going the speed limit, good for you.but stay to the right! And there defenitly will be a decrease in road rage. I think that's the kind of people that cause the rage is ignorant slow left lane drivers. I'm for leftlanedrivers.org check it out and buy a decal.its time we took back our fast lane.

Minorities shouldn't drive through Glendale. Apparently, sunny reinhart (2nd post above) has started a new branch of the KKK there.

The biggest cause of freeway anger is idiots driving too slow in the fast lane. If someone wants to pass, pull over! It's not your job to enforce California's speed laws.

What's wrong with CA drivers is the people like William and Hugo. The speed limit is not a suggestion! The speeding on the freeways carries over to surface streets and people driving the limit end up with some moron tailgating them who wants to drive 70 on a surface street.

I don't care much about slow leftlane drivers on surface streets, but on the freeways.. they really should move to the right and let faster drivers use the FAST lane.

Why is it that everyone in LA floors it to the next red light? I continually find myself laughing at other people who floor it when the light turns green only to arrive at the same red light as I do at the next intersection.

Just some suggestions:

1. Big-rigs should be relegated to being on the road only during 'non-peak' hours, such as 8pm-6am. I think they already have some policy in place but it seems they're on the road 24/7.

2. Those eatting, applying make-up, and on their phones (hands-free attachments are ok) should be cited w/ STIFF fines. They should increase the quotas police hand out, especially targeting these behaviors (similar to their current efforts to stamp out drunk driving, which appears to be effective).

3. Everybody should just chill out, including myself. We're spending way too much time on the roads. No need in compounding it by shortening our lives stressing over something we have limited control of.

Sometimes people have to drive in the left lane on surface streets because the right lane is rutted, mostly from water runoff that ruined the road. Like Sunset Blvd. from Beverly Hills to Brentwood, the right lane is so bad, it's hard to stay on the road and avoid getting your tired ruined.

We also need more left-turn lights, so people won't have to get into the intersection to turn, because otherwise you can't. And you have to make sure some jerk isn't going to race the yellow, almost red light and hit you.

Al is right about the illegals, I'm afraid, and it seems a lot of them drive without having any kind of license or training and probably never had any back in Mexico, either, where only the middle class has cars. Also the Asians and Persians are really bad and very aggressive. But there are also rich white jerks in very expensive cars who cut into a line by sneaking up from the right parking or right turn lane -- do you let the scumbag in for not waiting his turn, or honk?

In New York everyone would prevent him from sneaking in, but here at least half the drivers are wimps who make room and encourage the practice.

Jaywalking tickets are a joke -- cops give them out even if there are no cars around. No other city is this anal about it. On the other hand, pedestrians darting into crosswalks without waiting for a break in traffic or making sure oncoming drivers see them is a unique California hazard and very stupid. They shouldn't have these crosswalks when there's a light a block away. The ones that light up when someone steps into them are a help, but they're very few.

The main problem with traffic in LA is the stop lights. If the city could somehow manage to actually live up to what they say and synchronize the lights like they said they would then the commute times would drop drastically. They have censors in the roads however all the lights are still on timers. What's the point? A lot of the problems with the slow freeways are the idiots who don't know the purpose of the on ramp. It's is to speed up and get to the speed that the freeway is traveling. If traffic on the freeway is moving at 70mph, don't come onto the freeway going 35mph. Then when you try to get on the freeway people won’t let you on so you have to slow down or cut someone off. It almost seems as if people don't care to learn how to drive and also that cops don't care about most violations like they should. If it's the law it should be enforced. I am not saying that I am a perfect driver however it does seem that I am one of the few that still uses their blinkers to turn in the direction of the blinker being used, I don't roll through stop signs and then cut people off and then fail to go the speed limit, and lastly pay attention. Yes, I understand that speed limits are guidelines and you should adjust according to conditions. The main problem with that is that this is LA where it's always summer. It rains what 20 days out of the year and there is never any snow. So it's not like the road conditions change daily therefore the minimum speed limit should always be maintained. Anyone going 10 or more mph slower than the speed limit should get a ticket for slowing down traffic. Also, when the city has to do road construction they seem to start and get to a point where they are almost finished and then they leave that job and go work on another one until they feel the need to finish that last job. So while they could lift the cones and open the lane, they fail to do so leaving traffic jams galore in every direction around the construction. Buses are also a huge problem with slowing down traffic. All these MTA a******* think they own the damn road and can do whatever they feel like. Public transportation is great however I am tired of buses thinking they always have the right of way. There is this thing in the driver’s manual called YIELD and that is what more bus drivers need to learn how to do.

Infamous B, I believe that Jack Weiss did just manage to obtain some $5 million in funding for more modern light synchronization system to do just what you want: enable the lights to be controlled by MTA engineers from a remote facility, adjusted to the time of day and traffic conditions. And he requested a city-wide traffic study on patterns. I'm not a traffic expert, so I'm not sure where the money is coming from exactly or when this will be finished, but it's finally happening. And I want more left-turn greens.

Ya, thats another thing. The city invests money into the 5 light lights and then the solid green turn arrow is never used. You try to find one of those lights so it's easier to turn during rush hour, then you get to the light only to find that it's just a pale green being used.

Asian soccer moms? Mexican gardeners sitting 4 abreast in vintage Toyota pick-ups? Blackberry-wielding realtors in black SUVs? I'd rather be tailgated on the 405 by ANY of these than share the road with an African American woman. In my 15 years of L.A. commuting, I have seen more aggressive and reckless driving moves from this demographic than any other. And do not -- I repeat, do not -- flip them off. They'll swerve their battered Buick Regals and Chevy Geos into your lane faster than you can say "Grand Theft Auto," with fists shaking and eyes bulging. Avoid at all costs unless you are spoiling for a fight at the light.

Slow drivers who get on the fwy and immediately move to the fast lane when slower lanes are wide open, morons texting and talking while driving, jerks who pull out in front of you when there is no one behind you for blocks, cars that keep . courtesy and common sense are non-existant

dear nate (above)
it's so the maximum number of cars can get through the intersection - by going so slow some poor slob at the tail-end didn't get through 'cause someone ahead ten cars coasted along and held up those behind them - use your noggin friend - not enough road/car ratio out there - gotta be effecient

What makes Michael Shen think he is such a hot shot driver?

First he comes from New York which is known to have some of the worst drivers in the US.
Second the picture of him shows he is breaking the law by using a cell phone while driving, whether talking, texting or taking pictures.

Thrid when you relocate anyplace you adjust to the place you moved to and stop thinking your god.

Yes LA has bad drivers, so does every city and state in the USA, is he going to go from city to city, state to state trying to change things?

I suggest he simply take a bus and not worry about those that drive.

I can out drive him in any weather, any time ,day or night, rain or shine so I suggest he just get the hell out of CA if he does not like how we drive.

Oh and take your minions with you.

Having read many of the comments it shows that most posting should not be driving, PERIOD.

I doubt not one of your is without fault.

So if you must post before you do go look in the mirror and then post about that fool looking back at you.

It's upsetting when drivers get in the fast lane and go slower than the flow of the traffic. How does people that can't read or speak English get drivers license? From their driving habits it's clear they don't understand the basics of driving. When they cause traffic mishaps they flee the scene...??
