The State Bar has authored the "California Attorney Guidelines of Civility and Professionalism" aimmed at reducing the level of nastiness their profession. Our question: Do you know any nice lawyers?

It seems like the most greedy, competitive and heartless people are drawn to the legal profession. I even know of a judge who was an attorney and a former council person in a local city who apparently keys people's cars when they park on the public street in front of his home. He's very oddly protective of that parking spot. This fellow also has a personality as warm as a moon rock. This guy is making decisions about people's lives. Scarey stuff.
But if the bar really wants to fix the image of their profession ... they'll do what they can to discourage nuisance and shakedown lawsuits. These are primarily what shape people's negative images of attornies. These attornies don't hold a code of ethics. For example, the attornies who have a staff of handicapped people who abuse the spirit of the poorly written and overly intrusive Americans With Disabilities Act and sue multiple businesses every week with bogus injury and stress claims -- they and their clients are disgusting. Hundreds of local businesses have gone out of business because of this common lawsuit. It's sad that it costs more to defend oneself against one of these lawsuits than it does to offer these scummy shakedown crooks $10K or more just to go away even when they don't really have a valid case! Or the kind of attornies that represent disgustingly deceitful city employees who file clearly baseless racial discrimination suits against the over-taxed public for obvious profit motivations. This is the kind of practice abusing the spirit of our legal system that must change if the law profession wants respect. Just because you can make a buck from it doesn't mean that you should.
