Roadhouse Blues
It's been at least five days and Patrick Richardson's house is still parked on the shoulder on the 101 Freeway, though it's starting to blend-in with the landscape after taggers left their mark. What should be done with this immobile home? Remove it? Dismantle it for scrap? Move in and hold a house warming party? Send us your best ideas for this home improvement project!

why isn't this guy getting a ticket for this? no wonder our freeways are so screwed up: best roads in the u.s, but no rules. anything goes. the house? where is an arsonist when we need him?

Since when did the portion of the 101 Freeway on which this house now sits become the "Ventura" freeway? Last I knew, the old Barham Blvd. offramp where the house now sits is located on the Hollywood Fwy, in the Cahuenga Pass. That's not the Ventura Freeway.
It's a shame when a newspaper based in the San Fernando Valley can't tell the difference between two highways which have been known by their respective names sinces they opened in the 1950's and 1960's.
I don't know what should be done about the house, but the Daily News needs to hire an editor who is at least minimally familiar with the region's highways and freeways and who can tell the difference between the Ventura and the Hollywood stretches of U.S. 101.

What happend to the comments on LA traffic. A conspiracy? There should be a permanent section on traffic and reader's comments. Seems the only way the city and state civil servents will hear from us.
Why aren't people more outraged by 72 hours lost, 160 gals a yr. wasted per car, per year, costs drivers approx. $2500 per year in those costs? We need a protest day!
Releiving this traffic mess somewhat will help. There are many easy ideas to do this. Politicians only want to tax us to death. Most of the changes would be policies, road rules, etc. Then spend money on traffic light sync'ing and tech improvments. Then enforce the existing distracted driver rules.
Wake up people! This isn't hard. Get off your butts and make it happen!

People cry about traffic but never seem to care enough to hold politicians feet to the fire we need more lanes car pool lanes only during rush hour not 24/7 and stricter merging policies because really no one merges nice despite what caltrans thinks.
I am sure if this was a professional he would have gotten a huge ticket for ignoring an overload route after all there are many laws on the books regarding this, my question is at what point did the chp notice a house getting moved illegally and why did it take them so long? Morons

The CHP needs to give that bozo a ticket for gross stupidy, the thing should be dismantled and the lumber, etc hauled away for scrap,at the owners expense.

I get a ticket for no front license plate on a 2004 Toyota because some cop thinks he is upholding the law and this guy leaves a house on the freeway for a week and nothing! People all over are missing appointments due to the gridlock this causes. If nothing else, should he not at least get a gridlock ticket? Maybe 82 minutes in jail would teach him a lesson, it worked for Nicole Richie.

Get it off the freeway. Haul it, or wreck and burn it, but GET IT OFF THE FREEWAY! Sat Sept 15th the nearby streets were jam-packed and crammed with traffic, since CA Hwy Patrol was directing cars off the N 101 at many offramps before they came on the stalled house. I understand the first stall was at Silverlake. I saw the demolished rooftop of this green monster as I was getting on the Northbound 101 at Hollywood Blvd. Evidently, it didn't make it far up the freeway after that 2nd stall. Finally the wreck was ditched on the shoulder in the Cahuenga Pass at Barham. This idiot homeowner should be prosecuted for the traffic and safety problems he's caused and still is causing.
