State funding and the Expo line

The California Transportation Commission has approved hundreds of millions in funding for various projects, including $315 million for the Exposition light-rail between downtown and Culver City, while providing little for projects in the San Fernando Valley. Do you think the state is spending money on the right transportation projects?

The 405 "freeway" has long been one of the most crowded roads in the world. The amount of time and fuel wasted going nowhere is astronomical. We need a subway/lightrail from the Valley to the Westside.

light rail/subway is usable only if the network is large enough to enable people to go where they need to. The people of the Valley effectively voted against light rail in the Valley on the orange line, so it would be pointless to build a line to nowhere on the 405.

Light rail has never been shown to alleviate road or freeway traffic.

Has the red line reduced the 101 traffic from the valley? No.

It just allows more people to be crammed into the same area (high density).

Higher density = more money for developers =more campaign donations for politicians = more higher density zoning = Higher density = more money for developers =more campaign donations for politicians = more higher density zoningHigher density = more money for developers =more campaign donations for politicians = more higher density zoningHigher density = more money for developers =more campaign donations for politicians = more higher density zoning

The light rail from downtown to Culver City is beautifully designed and executed as far as it's gone so far, absolutely support its being concluded. But it will be more useful when it goes all the way to Santa Monica, pretty much along the lines of the 10 freeway. Then even people north and south can park and ride, even those like me who are in love with our cars.

I agree that there should eventually be a subway or rail line from the valley to connect to this one, along the 405, which is too congested now. The one from Downtown to Universal/ Studio City should have been replaced by this one in the first place, the existing line gets little business, it's a boondoggle for Universal that never panned out.

But also, I'd like to see more Valley people stay home or work in places like Warner Center, or take the existing line downtown. I'm sick of their clogging our highways, spewing their smog and then complaining about "the westside."
