I think its a great move! The Dodgers need a manager that is more aggressive than Little. Getting Torre over in Los Angeles would open the door for Pettite and maybe even A-Rod in L.A. Have Trump call Little, Grady, YOUR FIRED!
It should be about time we get a WINNER, like TORRE. It's been 20 years of singing Dodger BLEW. He will make a difference, no matter what the price. I am already saving up for my ticket increases anyway.
Are you kidding? Torre doesn't want to go out this way. Could you imagine getting LA to the fall classic and kicking Girardi or Paisan Francona's head in?
Hell yeah!
torre will manage right..grady was affable, and that undermined him. with all the dough the mccourts made the last 3 years, they can afford him and his coaches.invest in your franchise mccourt, buy some bats and a couple of starters. and oh, get rid of colleti and bringon someone of theo epstein's caliber..
Yes; Little apparently lost control of the dugout this past season, so an experienced "winner" could prevent a total upheaval for '08; plus, Mattingly as hitting coach fits fairly well, also.
While Torre may help(I'm sure he will), what the Dodgers need is a good power hitter(Lowell or Rodriquez). What they really need is middle releif. Their Aug./Sept. crash was the result of not having a deep bullpen. IMO
I think it is a disaster.
Torre was a horrible manager before the Yankees and our Dodgers do not spend like the Yankess to make Torre a success. This is Davey Johnson all over again.
Get Dusty Baker... He played for the Dodgers when they were the "Dodgers"...
Joe Torre is no Walt Alston or Tommy Lasorda... Let him and his 2 for 26 in the playoffs Alex Rodriguez go elsewhere... They couldnt make it in Pin Strips???
He is one of the worst in-game managers in the game, folks. St. Joe is also is a fraud who pretends he has dignity yet he interviewed for this job while his peer, Grady, was sill managining under contract.
No; this merely speaks but to the ever continuing and rampant dysfunction in this Dodgers organization.
When I consider the current state of Dodger leadership, the words of Leo Durocher come to mind. In response to a question regarding the Commissioner of the time, Leo stated "you know, you could put a stick in that guys chair and do just as good".
Which is to say it must be time to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic again - perhaps the real problem lies at the helm...
Its about time Grady goes. His inability to manage in crucial situations is why he's failed miserably managing his last two teams!See Ya Little brain!Welcome Mr.Torre!
Grady was a good manager. Torre lost his fastball years ago. From Allston and Lasorda to a revolving door and make no mistake about it, there will be another managerial buyout, except with Torre, it'll cost a lot more.
Make sure the Dodgers also hires Don Zimmer to sit next to Torre. He was clueless Joe before Zimmer and the Yankees $200+ payroll, without Zimmer and despite Yankees payroll and having the best player in baseball the Yankees got eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. His apologists point to the fact that the Yankees made the playoffs for 12 straight years, but with the talent he had available you and I could probably manage the team and get to the playoffs.
Goodbye to Grady with his inability to manager the team on the field and in the clubhouse. Torre will make out the lineup based on performance, not on how long you've played the game. This group had too many players in the twilight of their careers, loveable - yes, reliable not at all. Now we need to get rid of Jeff Can't and Nomore Garciaparra so the younger guys can play everyday.
I'm not a Dodger fan, I'm an Angel fan. So I doubt most people care what I think. But I just don't think this was smart for Joe Torre. The Dodgers haven't done much at all since Frank McCourt bought them. They have no real plan. The only plan they seem to have is blame someone when you fail and replace them. Goodbye Jim Tracy and hello Grady Little. Goodbye Grady Little and hello Joe Torre.
I never saw what Jim Tracy did that earned him his firing. He would be great now that the Dodgers are so young since he seems to be better with young players.
I don't know what the Dodgers are planning to do next but I just don't see how changing managers every two years fixes anything. Who will replace Joe Torre in 2010?
Comments
I think it's a good idea but so was Johnson, Tracey, and Little.

Posted by: Joe Torre | October 29, 2007 2:52 PM
Signing Torre as manager gives LA a huge advantage to signing A-Rod. Plus he probably brings Mariano Rivera with him....a decent bullpen addition!
